Mar 5, 1899 - Sunday, At 12:30 a.m. the almighty laid his hand heavily upon me. Lightning struck my barn and consumed it with it’s entire contents. Nine head of valuable horses, 90 head of sheep & lambs, about 500 bushel wheat, new wheat drill, wagons & plough gear, about 1 ton fertilizer, wheat, corn, oats & a variety of other things. I was the first person to reach the barn & it was a solid mass of flame from top to bottom. I think it was intended by providence as a warning to me to turn from the error of my way. God grant me power to do so.
