Research Paper
One final research paper (25%) on a social issue facing the Arab World should be selected by the student in prior consultation with the Instructor. Late delivery will affect the grading of your paper. The final research paper should be no less than 10 typed double-spaced pages. Here the student will identify an issue that he/she considers to be of major relevance to Arab Society and culture, e.g. the phenomenon of honor killings in Egypt and Jordan, social obstacles to democratization, new religious preachers, women behind bars, divorce causes and trends, veiling movement, child labor, Arab or Iranian feminist movement, and status of a particular minority, social profiling of Palestinian human bombers, Arab-Arab marriages etc. He /she should critically analyze/interpret the meaning or significance of the issue for Arab society in general. The paper should have a title and no less than 10 different cited references that include journals, books and possible personal field interviews. It should also have an outline (table of contents, research question, literature review relevant statistics, methodology and critical conclusions).
