Tang Liang-CEO, Liantong

Tony Navarro, SVP-Strategy and Head, M&A of IMA
Tony Navarro is Senior VP, and relocated to Shanghai from NYC to support business development for IMAX China Holding, Inc. In this capacity, he is  responsible for developing strategy, sourcing and executing on new businesses and investment opportunities for the Company – including virtual reality. Mr Navarro joined IMAX Corporation in 2013 as Chief of Staff to Richard L. Gelfond, CEO of IMAX Corp and Chairman of IMAX China. Previously, Mr. Navarro worked at McKinsey & Company, IDEO and Lehman Brothers (currently Barclays). Mr. Navarro holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Masters of Public Administration from Harvard University.


Wang Yao-Chair, Technical Committee, Future of Broadcast Television Initiative
Yao Wang received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. He had participated in the development and deployment Chinese Digital Television Broadcasting Standard Suite and a series of Chinese national high definition system research and development projects and next generation ultra-high definition television and media network system and holds more than 20 patents. He now serves as vice director of National Engineering Research Center of Digital Television and the chair of Technical Committee of Future of Broadcast Television Initiative (FOBTV).

Presentation: Collaborative Approach of Future Broadcast Television

Abstract: With the convergence of media networks, broadcast television is also evolving into a next generation television system. As a global collaborative research and development platform with participation of more than 70 companies from 20 countries all over the world, FOBTV is aiming to find common needs and system technologies for future of broadcast television and foster the collaboration of global DTV development laboratories. The presentation will make introduction of the goal, future plan of the initiative.

Du Baichuan-Deputy Director of Technology Committee, SARFT
Mr Du is a Professor in Engineering, he is also a PhD supervisor and Chairman of Technical Activities Committee of China Alliance of Radio, Film and Television, specialist of Advisory Committee for State Information. Mr. Du graduated from Department of Electronics, Peking University in 1969. He continues his education and graduated from Department of Fiber Optic Communication, Peking University from 1981-1993. After that, he started his teaching career in Communication University as the dean of Department of Television Engineering.From 1993 to 1994, he took the post as the general director of the broadcasting and film training center. From 1994-2001, he progressed to be the head of Institute of Broadcasting Technology, studying digital TV, digital audio broadcasting and high definition TV. From 2001-2006, he becomes the deputy director at Science & Technology Division of SARFT. He was also an expert National Information System Advisory Committee. In the mean time, he is an expert at State Tri-networks Convergence Committee, deputy director of the State Council of China, deputy director at State Broadcasting Standardization Committee and expert at State Radio Regulatory Advisory Committee.


Sam Methany

Sam Matheny is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at the National Association of Broadcasters. With over 20 years of experience in the broadcast and data networking industries, including earning a patent for inventing mobile and interactive DTV technologies, Sam leads NAB's technology team in its efforts to promote innovation and propel broadcast technology into the future. He also provides overall leadership for NAB Labs activities, including the TV, Radio, and Digital Technology Committees.


He is a member of the board of directors for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), where he previously served as Chairman of the specialist group on the next generation of digital television. He is also a member of the FCC Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council (CSRIC), a member of the Academy of Digital Television Pioneers, and he serves on the advisory board of StepLeader Corporation, a mobile applications and advertising company he co-founded in 2005.

Bob has a 40 year history encompassing photography, film animation and special effects, computer graphics and audio-visual technologies.
He has worked for companies such as Marron-Carrell, 3Dlabs, Creative Labs (Singapore), SVSi and most recently Harman International.
He has diverse experience in Sales & Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Product Development and Networked Audio & Video switching and distribution.

His career has spanned all global regions with a particular emphasis on APAC and China.



Senior Manager of Production Facilities Division, TVB
After his graduation from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Johnny Yeung joined TVB, Hong Kong and worked in technical/operational areas like Lighting, Video, Computer Technologies, etc.

In Year 1999, Johnny Yeung became Assistant Manager of TKO Project, responsible for architectural planning/design, system/equipment acquisition/installation, budget control and site removal for the new TVB City.

In Year 2006, he was promoted to Project Manager of DTTB/HDTV Project to handle the development of Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcast and High Definition TV production and broadcasting of TVB.

During his services in TVB, Johnny Yeung was also delivering an additional role of technical advisor/consultant for some China TV Stations and some ABU members.

In August 2013, he joined TRANSMEDIA, Indonesia as the Director in the Board overseeing all technical matters for all the subsidiaries under TRANSMEDIA, which includes two FTA TV stations, a media portal, a PayTV platform and a new 24-hr News Channel: CNN Indonesia.

This September 2016, he returned TVB as Senior Manager of Production Facilities Division.

Charles Lim——VP of IMAX Global
Charles Lim is currently Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at IMAX Corporation and is actively working on the IMAX Private Theatre Initiative in the home. Prior to that, Mr. Lim was a technical lead video engineer and has successfully led engineering teams developing bleeding edge fiber optic broadcast video / audio systems, consumer electronics and aerospace technologies that earned him the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Award of Excellence. Mr. Lim is also registered as a professional engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario Canada, has an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School. Mr. Lim is currently on an assignment in Shanghai from Toronto for IMAX Corporation.

David Zhou, Business Strategy Director, Dolby Laboratories
As a business strategy director at Dolby, David is responsible for developing Dolby’s video technologies business in the region. His current activities include working closely with partners across the ecosystem and bringing the Dolby Vision experience into the home.

David joined Dolby Laboratories in January 2010. Prior to his current role, he was responsible for Dolby’s marketing efforts in the broadcast industry in Greater China.

David has more than 20 years of experience in market development and product management. Prior to joining Dolby, he took several different marketing and business development roles in companies like Ericsson, Rogers Cable and Irdeto.

David holds a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering degree from Beijing University of Science and Technology and a Master of Electronic Engineering degree from University of Toronto.

Jim Chabin

At the request of Hollywood studio stakeholders in 2009, Jim was asked to form the Advanced Imaging Society to advance the arts and sciences of 3D and other advanced imaging technologies.

Jim has served as President of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, President of Promax/BDA, Head of Promotions for E! Entertainment Television, Head of West Coast Marketing for the CBS Television Stations, as a sales executive for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles and as President / General Manager of radio stations KISS AM-FM in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.

In his capacities, over the last seven years, Chabin has logged over one million air miles to host, market, or executive produce more than 100 events in a global scale. In 2005, Chabin led efforts which resulted in being approved by the Chinese government to hold the first Marketing Conference ever for Chinese Television Professionals in Chengdu.


Chuck Peil, Founder of Reel FX
As a founding member of Reel FX, Peil has participated in the studios significant growth over the past 22 years which now employs 315 team members in their 75,000 square foot Dallas and 17,000 square foot Santa Monica studios. Salar Shahna

As the creative director and co-founder of World VR Forum, Salar took on VR content producing in 2015 and left the film industries that he had worked in. He joined Apelab and the producing of Sequence (Sundance, 2016), taking the role as a consultant. Salar established Dirty Bacon studio, which pays much attention on the newest projects about VR and films. Salar has worked in the producing of Blame it on Rousseau, Dirty Gold War, Miss Ronde, The Bakery, Human Race 3D.


James Fong, CEO of Jaunt China
James Fong is the CEO of Jaunt China.

James has extensive experience in China over the past 12 years and most recently was responsible for advancing Amazon.com's third-party merchant and advertising businesses in China.

Prior to Amazon.com, James was a Managing Director at China Tongyin, a Beijing-based boutique merchant bank, responsible for its TMT practice. During his tenure with the NBA China, he was the Managing Director of Arena and League Development in China. Earlier, as the Managing Director, James managed Microsoft’s $165 million China equity investment fund along with other responsibilities including the sales and marketing activities across 17 provinces and 32 cities. In the early part of his career, James served eight years in the U.S. Air Force.

James holds an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical and Astronautic Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.



Eugene Chung

Eugene Chung is a film director and the founder of Penrose Studios a startup focused on augmented and virtual reality. Previously Eugene was Head of Film & Media at Oculus VR which was later acquired by Facebook for $2 billion. While at Oculus Eugene co-created Oculus Story Studio. Prior to Oculus he was with New Enterprise Associates and Pixar Animation Studios. He holds degrees from UC Berkeley and Harvard.

Emily Smith,

Emily is responsible for strategic marketing, commercial partnerships and corporate communications and lead's the companies academic, cultural and stakeholder relationships. Prior to this she led the programming of temporary exhibitions, events, digital strategy and marketing at London’s Natural History Museum.  Her career has spanned marketing and communications roles for London’s cultural organisations including the Royal Court Theatre, London Philharmonic Orchestra and National Gallery. 




Sarah Ellis-Head of Digital Development, Royal Shakespeare Company
 Sarah Ellis is an award winning producer currently working as Head of Digital Development for the Royal Shakespeare Company to explore new artistic initiatives and partnerships.  In 2016 she was awarded The Hospital Club and Creatives Industries award for cross industry collaboration for her work on The Tempest in collaboration with Intel and in association with The Imaginarium Studios. In 2013 she was listed in the top 100 most influential people working in Gaming and Technology by The Hospital Club and Guardian Culture Professionals.  In partnership with Google’s Creative Lab, she recently produced Midsummer Night’s Dreaming which won two Lovie Awards for Innovation and Experimentation.  In 2012, she produced myShakespeare an online artistic commissioning platform for the World Shakespeare Festival.  In 2011, she was the producer of the RSC’s new work Adelaide Road, which mixed live performance with an app and website map.  As a theatre and spoken word producer, she has worked with the Old Vic Tunnels, Battersea Arts Centre, Birmingham REP, Contact, Freeword, Improbable, Southbank Centre, Soho Theatre, and Shunt.  She has been Head of Creative Programmes at the Albany Theatre and Programme Manager for Apples & Snakes, England’s leading performance poetry organisation.  She is a regular speaker and commentator on digital arts practice

Dave Black,

Dave has been pioneering the use of immersive technologies since his key involvement in the launch and early growth of augmented reality giant, blippar. Since then, he has been responsible for pushing award-winning Virtual Reality Studio ‘Rewind:VR' into the limelight with world famous, ground breaking VR experiences and is now working with two of the film industry's leading 3D and atmospheric sound experts to bring real world and cinematic audio solutions to VR audiences.




Marc Goodchild, Chief Creative Officer, CPO, Gingersnap Studios
Marc Goodchild is a multi-award winning TV-producer turned digital innovator who first started experimenting with immersive story-telling back in the late 90s.
In 1997 he pioneered a live kids TV show for the BBC that involved a real-time internet treasure hunt, a VR locked-room game and a video over IP quiz - 5 years before Skype even launched.
He subsequently went on to co-devise a ground breaking mixed-reality show involving virtual creatures created by the audience (called Bamzooki), and in 2001 produced the world's first interactive TV documentary for the Walking with Dinosaurs franchise. Over the next few years he introduced voting formats to BBC Factual TV (with Great Britons and the Big Read), and oversaw the Live8 live broadcasts across 8 simultaneous interactive channels.
From 2006 to 2011 he headed BBC Children's digital division, through a period of great creative renewal, overseeing the cross-platform production for In the Night Garden, Blue Peter, Newsround, Tracy Beaker etc and oversaw a custom children's version of the iPlayer for both Cbeebies and CBBC. (Kids on-demand viewing now makes up 20% of BBC iPlayer traffic).
Since leaving the BBC in 2011 he has worked for digital agencies on campaigns for Lego, Disney and Xbox, delivered cross-platform initiatives for Channel 4, including Jamie Oliver's 15 minute meals app and 360° video for Disney's Frankenweenie theatrical release and advised on numerous start-ups.
In 2012 he co-founded Syncscreen, where he developed a two-screen authoring platform for recorded programming - still being used by BBC Children's and for the last 2 years has thrown his energies into a social-tech project Gingersnap, designed to help grandparents and grandkids stay better connected no matter how far apart they live. True to form the platform breaks new ground in personalised story-telling and offers a collection of interactive story apps you can star in and gift remotely.
Marc also regularly acts as a story-consultant and creative architect for a number of cutting edge immersive projects designed for TV, VR, AR and on-site installations.

Jenn Schwerin

Founder, TaDaa Media in Beijing

Jenn Schwerin is one of the most respected foreigners working in the Chinese media world, and for the past 19 years has helped the world’s largest multi-national corporations create and distribute their narrative campaigns across China. She is a cross-cultural, multi-platform communicator with her finger on the pulse of trends in storytelling. Her firm creates narrative branded content that plays across a wide range of platforms—from China’s incredible network of public screens in elevators and subways, to television, mobile, webisodes and more. Schwerin developed the first MTV content from China. Her clients include P&G, Olay, Mastercard, and Pfizer to name just a few. As an award-winning filmmaker (director, writer, producer) working in both North America and China, Schwerin has made films for HBO and PBS and was nominated for an Emmy award for her short fiction video work. In China for the past 19 years, Jen created the first mainland Chinese short films for MTV Asia in the mid-90's and was the Creative Director of Encore International working closely with China Central Television. Most recently, Schwerin has written several feature screenplays and directed numerous short fiction works in Mandarin and English. Her feature film project "Delicious" was selected as a finalist for the First China-Canada Gateway Screenplay Competition held at the Whistler International Film Festival in 2012 and will be produced as China-Canadian co-production. Schwerin is slated to direct her Mandarin language/China market film, "Driving 66", on location in the American Southwest. Her short fiction film, "A Part Apart" (2012), won Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Cinematographer awards in the National Film Challenge 2012. In 2011, her short fiction film "Elixir" (2011) was a finalist in the same competition. Taking her expertise in short-format, highly creative content, Schwerin founded TaDaa! Media in 2008 as a platform to create feature films, branded content and viral digital gems for trans-media platforms in China and the world. She is actively seeking scripts and scriptwriters with which to collaborate as she builds a bigger creative team. Jen grew up in NYC with her photographer mother, Polly Brown, her entrepreneur father, Joseph Schwerin, and her two sisters, both filmmakers, Leslie Schwerin and Christina Schwerin. She graduated with a BA degree in fine art from Yale University and studied film production at NYU. Schwerin’s expertise in the Chinese market runs deep, and she will share her insights on transmedia productions, and the evolution of branded content storytelling.



Richard Whittington

Richard Whittington leads SAP’s Media and Entertainment Division, which is focused on content monetization and audience engagement for their customers in broadcasting, entertainment, internet, social media, printing and publishing. SAP is a multi-billion dollar German multinational corporation specializing in software to manage business operations and customer relations, with more than 293,500 customers in 190 countries. This global role requires deep understanding of where the media and communications industry is heading, and where SAP can take the vertical. Areas of focus include: Home Video, Multi-Platform Distribution platforms, Audience Analytics and Content Distribution and Commerce for a wide range of Entertainment Companies. Whittington spends much of his time working with SAP's global customers, giving him a deep insight into the fast evolving world of media and technologies such as the cloud that can support the industry, its audiences, and their content and distribution demands. Prior to building SAP’s media and entertainment portfolio, Mr. Whittington worked as a management consultant for IBM Global Business Services and as a Partner with PwC serving many of the leading old and new media companies. Whittington has a consistent record of meeting the P&L targets and budgets on projects, managed and exceeded sales goals and revenue targets and has high customer satisfaction focus. Whittington is a regular speaker at media and tech industry events, recognized for strong business acumen, C-Level Communication skills, and strong understanding of the business evolution in the industry.

As the head of Yahoo! Finance, Andy Serwer has his finger on the pulse on the trends and innovations in the business of media as well as the global content strategy for Yahoo! Finance and its business audience. He is the former managing editor of Fortune, with famous cover stories on Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, and Cisco CEO John Chambers. He has been a regular contributor on CNN’s ͞American Morning͟ and served as co-host of CNN’s ͞In the Money.͟ Leading Yahoo! Finance, Andy is focused on industry trends, as well as Yahoo’s own investments in video content and distribution channels. He has written a number of Fortune cover stories, including profiles of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, and Cisco CEO John Chambers. Ricky Chau

Dr. Chau is vice president of Asia Pacific region at Level 3 Communications (NYSE: LVLT) and is based in Hong Kong. In this capacity, he is responsible for sales, business operation and business development in the Asia Pacific region. He has been instrumental to drive sales and market expansion for Level 3 in Asia Pacific.

Dr. Chau has more than 18 years of ICT business leadership experience and extensive expertise in the enterprise and service provider markets in Asia Pacific. This experience has helped him cultivate extensive business acumen throughout the region.

Prior to joining Level 3, Dr. Chau served as vice president of carrier services and general manager of Global Crossing’s Asia business. He also held various leadership positions at New World Telecom (Hong Kong Broadband), Equant (Orange Business Service), Asia Global Crossing (Telstra) and Cable & Wireless (Vodafone).

He is in charge of technical service for Akamai APJ including the eCommerce, OTT Media, High Tech, Social Networking, Manufacturing and Online Gaming sectors. Sean leads the Akamai APJ technical team providing world class consulting, design, advisory and delivery services of CDN and Cloud Security solutions to Akamai customers.

Sean has more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry in the Network, Telecom, Application Performance Management, Application Delivery Optimization and Cloud Service sector.



Prior to joining Akamai, Sean has worked with IBM, Cisco, Avaya and Riverbed. Sean’s working experience covered pre-sale technical support, channel technical enablement, product management and product marketing with different job roles.
