Our Beliefs
We believe in theTriune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
We are justified (saved) by our faith - not works or merit. It is the grace of God which makes this possible.
We accept the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.
We accept the Apostles',Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church.
We confess the Gospel, recorded in Holy Scripture and confessed in ecumenical creeds and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God's mission in the world.
We recognize two sacraments:Baptism and Holy Communion.
Baptism is God's action. In baptism, God accepts us. Therefore we baptize infants as well as adults.
* Christ is truly and fully present in, with, and under the forms of the bread and wine of communion. Bread and wine are not mere symbols. We commune weekly.
* We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
We (the ELCA) are in full communion with the United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Church of Christ, the Reformed Church in America, and the Moravian Church.

What We Believe
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NRSV)
We believe that God is a relational God as expressed in the Trinity--God the Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit. God created us and has loved us from the beginning of time. What we know of God is most clearly seen through his Son Jesus, who while on earth came to love, save and give us an everlasting hope. Upon Jesus' rising from the grave and returning to glory, the Holy Spirit came to dwell with us to strengthen and remind us of the love of God through Christ Jesus.
-
God is meant to be embraced through faith. By faith, we cling to God’s unconditional love, most especially when human events and natural disasters call us to search for meaning and ponder life’s deeper questions.
-
We can never be good enough to earn our salvation and we never are so sinful that God's hand is too short to save us. We come to God just as we are but God loves too much let stay that way.
-
We trust that nothing can separate us from this love which has its full expression in the work and person of Jesus Christ who reconciled the each one of us to himself, one another and the entire world.
-
Advent Lutheran Church is more than a location. Our lovely edifice and spacious grounds “houses” the church—the gathered community of believers whose sole purpose is to worship God. In other words, we just don't "go" to church, we "are" the church.
-
Each time we gather for worship, God strengthens us so that we be agents of grace and mercy in the world through acts of love, sharing our resources and service to the broader community and ultimately the world.
-
We believe that the Holy Scriptures both the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) compose the Bible. They record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Holy Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian fellowship for service in the world.
-
We listen deeply for the voice of God in the preached Word, in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Lord’s Supper; in Bible study and Christian education, and learning to love one another.
