Teaching and Learning Strategies

The purpose of this unit is to offer the opportunity for the student to undertake the design of medium or large scale projects such as, housing or apartment developments, institutional, commercial or cultural buildings, or suburban or small town redevelopment, and to produce drawings and/or models to a developed design stage.

It would be appropriate that after two standard units of study, a student will be able to put into practice previous learning experiences. It also gives students an opportunity to develop their skills in the application of design theory.

Work is to take place in a studio space where students can discuss and develop ideas. This provides an opportunity for students to receive individual assistance from the teacher and give peer feedback.

Students are encouraged to develop and express critical opinions about their own work at formal evaluation sessions. Practising architects, engineers and specialist consultants may be included in the structure of delivery and feedback.
