Arrangement and Word Choice

The arrangement is an important part of the classic rhetoric analysis. It consists of exordium, narratio, partitio, confirmatio, refutatio, and peroratio. The arrangement of the American and Chinese sex education videos is slightly different. Instead of using a signature channel intro, Leci begins her video by asking a question “what bleeds every month without dying, produces pleasure, and can push out entire human beings? It’s the one, the only, vagina” (0:01). The reason why she designed the video this way is to attract the audience within the first few seconds of the video, as well as reveal the theme of the video. There is also a clear ending part in the American video where Leci encourages people to learn more about the vagina and love and appreciate it. This shows strong pathos as it appeals to people's emotions.

The video produced by American YouTuber lecigreen is called "10 SECRET VAGINA FACTS" in all capital letters. The title already shows the difference from the Chinese one for it is much shorter, and it names the female genital part directly as a vagina without using a euphemism. Throughout the video, the word choice in the American video is much more direct than the Chinese one. Words such as "vagina", "cervix", "erection", "hymen", "clitoris" are stated plainly and normally without hiding. Although for once Leci used the word “va-jay-jay” instead of “vagina”, this is more for humorous an effect rather than feeling embarrassed to use the technical term. On the contrary, the Chinese video never uses the word "vagina" even once. The reason for this phenomenon will be discussed in the next section.
