First phase - pilot study on the survey's validity

The research was carried out using a three-stage process based on systematic inquiry. In Stage 1, the researcher carried out an initial investigation. Before the survey was distributed to the participant pool, the pilot study served as an early assessment of the survey's reliability and content validity. It also revealed any areas for improvement (J. W. Creswell, 2014). The researcher chose some of the information collected on August 10, 2022, for the pilot study. A pilot survey to help technical universities bridge the digital skills gap with disruptive technologies in mechanical engineering. The pilot questionnaire was sent in a Google Form to mechanical engineering lecturers in technical universities with more than 10 years of teaching experience for validation.
A permission letter for conducting research from the researchers' university was attached to the pilot questionnaires. The six lecturers who took part in the trial's pilot phase made up 10% of the population as a whole. Participants in the pilot test were asked to fill out the survey and give feedback on its language, how well the questions showed up in different browsers and operating systems, and how reliable the survey link was. There were seven specific tasks given to those who participated in the pilot study. First and foremost, the survey link should function properly in Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer on computers, as well as on any mobile device. In the second step, they checked the survey instructions for clarity and simplicity. They checked the survey questions for clarity, which was the third step. As a fourth step, they looked for any indications of cultural, regional, gender, or racial bias in the survey's wording. The fifth element they considered was whether or not the question was sufficiently detailed to elicit useful responses from participants. Sixth, they determined whether or not the question was directly related to the variable under study. Finally, the participants logged the total time it took them to finish the survey. Information from the pilot test survey administration

was recorded in a discrete Google Form. The seven tasks in the pilot study were completed and returned to the researcher through email.

In Google Forms, suggestions from the testing phase were put together. The information from the pilot study was carefully looked at and used. The researcher and the advisor for the dissertation worked together to fix spelling mistakes and change the way some questions were asked. A few changes were made to the questions to fix typing errors. With the supervisor's approval, the survey questions were changed to better reflect the digital training skills that mechanical engineers need to bridge the industry gap.
