V.1 DPI versus non-DPIThe elements for DPI may be subject of policy conditions, given by an overall policy rule concept for defining the functional behaviour of a DPI entity. See an example in Figure V.1. It should be noted that DPI is applicable for all kind of layered protocol architectures. NOTE 1 – The information elements used by these identifiers are tight to a layered protocol architecture, see clause 3.2.16 for flow level conditions. This concept allows to discriminate DPI from non-DPI (see an example in NOTE 2).
