13) Break tow

In the event of an emergency towing situation where the Towing Tug experiences difficulties and is required to break the tow, the following procedures should be followed:

  • The Tug Master shall immediately inform the Seismic Ship Officer of the Watch (OOW) and request a broken tow.

  • The seismic ship crew should stand by on the bow and prepare to lift the Tow rope off the bollard once the rope is not on tension.

  • The Seismic vessel crew will signal the Towing Tug to release Rope tension.

  • Upon receiving the "GO" signal from the Seismic Ship, the Towing Tug shall ease the tension and allow the seismic ship crew to remove the Towline from the Bollard.

  • The Towing Tug should then retrieve the tow line.

  • It is essential that all personnel involved in the emergency towing operation remain vigilant and maintain clear communication throughout the procedure. The safety of all personnel involved should always be the top priority.
