In the 1850 census for Randolph County, Alabama, Malachi Taylor and his wife Martha Taylor were both listed as having been born in Georgia. At that time his children were: Timothy Taylor age 3 and born in Alabama, and William Taylor age 1 and born in Alabama. Also living in the same household was his youngest brother James Taylor age 15.

In the 1860 census for Columbia County, Alabama, Malachia Taylor ("Malachi Taylor") and Martha Taylor then had 6 children: Timothy Taylor age 12 and born in Alabama; William Taylor age 11 and born in Alabama; Charles Taylor age 9 and born in Alabama; John Taylor age 7 and born in Alabama; Jeptha Taylor age 5 and born in Alabama; and, Nancy Taylor age 2 and born in Arizona.

Malachi Taylor does not appear in the 1870 Alabama census and his place of death is believed to be in Texas in 1871. Malachi Taylor and Martha Taylor had 9 children:

Vollie Taylor born August 1879 or January 1879375 in Texas and married a Lula about 1903. Lula was born about 1887. Vollie Taylor and Lula Taylor had a daughter named Pauline Taylor born February 1909;

Martha E. Taylor ("Martha Taylor") born August 22, 1863 in Columbia County, Arkansas, and married Millard Golden. According to the 1880 census for Wise County, Arkansas, she was then 16 years of age and was living in the household of his brother, Timothy Y. Taylor ("Timothy Taylor"); and,

Ellen Taylor born August 22, 1863 in Columbia County, Arkansas, and died September 1875; and,

(vii) JOEL JOSIAH TAYLOR ("Joel Taylor") born in Georgia, married a Margaret and died about 1895. Margaret was born in Georgia. Joel Josiah Taylor ("Joel Taylor") does not appear in the 1850 census for Alabama. However, a Joshiah Taylor appears in the census for Muscogee County, Georgia. At that time the Joshiah Taylor household comprised himself age 47. However, if his date of birth is 1803, then he is unlikely to be the son of William Taylor. In the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census, Joel Taylor's son, James A. Taylor ("James Edward Taylor"?, "James Taylor" & "Jim Taylor") reports that both his mother and father were born in Georgia. Joel Taylor and Margaret Taylor had a son named:

James A. Taylor ("James Taylor", "James Edward Taylor"? & "Jim Taylor") born January 16, 1859 in Georgia, married Dillie Florilla John ("Dillie John" & "Dillie Flora Johns"?) in February 1880, died March 9, 1926, and is buried in Forrester Church Cemetery in Randolph County, Alabama. Dillie John was born January 2, 1862 in Alabama, died May 24, 1937 in Randolph County, Alabama, and is buried with her husband. James Taylor and Dillie Taylor had 11 children:

Buddie Josiah Taylor born May 7, 1881 in Randolph County, Alabama, never married, and died November 17, 1935 in Randolph County, Alabama, and is buried in Forrester Church Cemetery in Randolph County, Alabama;
