John P.S. Cavender ("John P. Cavender", “John Paschal Sylvester Cavender”?, “J.P. Cavender”, “J.P.S. Cavender” & "John Cavender") born in Greene County, Ohio on January 31, 1844, enlisted in the Civil War as a private at 18 years of age in the 34th. Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company G on August 10, 1861 along with Samuel R. Cavender ("Samuel Cavender" & “S.R. Cavender”) who was likewise then living in Arcadia, Morgan County, Illinois, and he died in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky on November 6, 1861 at the age of 17;

Samuel Kemper Cavender (“S.K. Cavender” & "Samuel Cavender") born in Greene County, Ohio on February 24, 1846, enlisted in the Civil War on August 5, 1862 in Company “G” of the 101st Illinois Vounteers in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois when he was 18 years of age. His company was captured by the rebels on December 20, 1862 at Holly Springs, Mississippi and he was sent as a prisoner to Memphis, Tennessee and thence to Benton Barracks, Missouri where he remained until exchanged in June 1863. His regiment participated in General Sherman’s march through Georgia and to the “sea” in 1864. He was wounded in the right leg at Dallas, Georgia on March 25, 1864, was sent to the field hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and rejoined his unit in September 1864.

Upon the conclusion of the Civil War, the 101st Illinois Regiment participated in the grand review in Washington, D.C.. They camped at Bladensburg, Maryland where they remained until June 7, 1865 when it was mustered out of service and went back to Springfield, Illinois by railroad. The regiment disbanded on June 21, 1865 and he was mustered out near Washington, D.C. on June 7, 1865. On July 17, 1882 he filed his applicaton for pension in Newton, Jasper County, Georgia based upon his leg wound, and which he drew until his death on June 20, 1891 in Capitol Park at the age of 50 years and is buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.



He first married Clarinda Harper ("Clara Harper") in Newton Township, Jasper County, Iowa on December 4, 1873 in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa with Rev. J.W. Robinson performing the ceremony. He apparently later married formerly Mrs. Ida V. Reager (“Ida Reager”) whose maiden name was Ida V. Washington ("Ida Washington") on November 28, 1889 in Des Moines Iowa, and who died June 20, 1891 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa at the age of 45. Clarinda Harper was born in 1836 in Loudoun County, Virginia, which is near Washington, D.C., was the daughter of an unknown Harper and a Catherine, and she died on March 4, 1886 in Jasper County, Iowa at the age of 50. Ida Washington (“Ida Reager”?) was born in June of 1865 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Samuel Cavender and Clarinda Cavender had the following children:

Letitia M. Cavender? ("Letitia Cavender" & “L.M. Cavender”) born about 1860 in Virginia?;

John William Cavender ("John Cavender", “J.W. Cavender” & “John W. Cavender”) born either on December 5, 1875 or on September 17, 1874kereed@bendnet.com in Jasper County, Iowa, married Violet Mae Dewey (“Viola Mae Dewey”, “Viola Dewey” & "Violet Dewey") on February 7, 1906, and died May 3, 1941 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa at the age of 66. Violet Dewey (“Viola Dewey”) was born April 2, 1886 in Russell, Lucas County, Iowa, and died in Laferia, Texas on January 16, 1919. Shortly thereafter, the children of John Cavender were abadoned and he apparently headed for the West. The children of John Cavender were:

Cavender” & “Ira Cavinder”) born August 11, 1876 in Palo Alto Township, Jasper County, Iowa, married Minnie Willis (“Mary Willis”?) on December 25, 1898 in Hall County, Nebraska, died July 15, 1941 in Kent County, Washington at the age of 64, and is buried in Sumner County, Washington. Minnie Willis was the daughter of George Washington Willis ("George Willis") and Emily Willis (formerly "Emily Dunlap"), was born August 2, 1877 in Sangamon, Champaign County, Illinois, died October 8, 1961 in Kent County, Washington, and is buried with her husband in Sumner, Washington. The children of Ira Cavender and Minnie Cavender (formerly "Minnie Willis") were:

Cavender”) born November 8, 1899 in Hall County, Nebraska, married Ruth Anna Brown (“Ruth Brown”) on April 1, 1938 in King County, Washington and died June 30, 1968 in Kent, King County, Washington at the age of 68. Ruth Brown was born April 1, 1911 in Bowman, North Dakota, was the daughter of Frank F. Brown ("Frank Brown") and Minnie Brown (formerly "Minnie Westphal"), and is living in Kent, Washington.
