In the 1870 census for Randolph County, Alabama, the William Taylor household comprise himself age 45 and his wife Elen Taylor ("Ellen Taylor") age 45. No children were listed in the William Taylor household. Living near the household of William Taylor was the family of his brother Solomon Taylor, and the remaining family of the widow of Elijah Taylor who was also a brother of William Taylor. In the 1910 census for Carroll County, Georgia, William J. Taylor ("William Taylor") is listed as being 83 years of age and he is then living in a dwelling alone. The family of his niece, Claude Taylor Hood, lived nearby. William Taylor reported that he had one child but that the child was not living in 1910.
