position of prepositions with which , who and where There are two possible positions fora preposition that is being used in conjunction with which, who and where :
1. Directly before which, who and where – this is a formal style and may sound strange. Note the use of whom ( with whom, from whom ).
2. At the end of the phrase – more informal and more common.
3. If there is already a preposition in the phrase, then the preposition associated with who or which is located at the end of the phrase.
4. Bi yi cannot be separated from which.
DIRECTLY BEFORE WHO / WHICH
AT END OF PHRASE
1,2 We want to know to which group the member belongs. We want to know which group the member belongs to .
1,2 We want to know from where he comes. We want to know where he comes from .
