Introduction
The EESC has written this information report assessing Directive 2009/128/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 establishing a framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides.
Based on information collected during fact-finding meetings to selected EU Member States and responses to an expert questionnaire, this technical annex gathers, analyses and summarises the views of civil society organisations on the Directive. In particular, stakeholders were invited to present their views on the effectiveness and relevance of EU legislation1 regarding the use of pesticides, as well as the added value of civil society, i.e. the level of inclusion of civil society organisations in drafting and implementing the legislation.
The report aims to inform policymakers in view of the new proposal for the revision of the Directive and will thus be shared with the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders.
