To Hazel Evans from Zura Evans (Mrs. Joseph Evans), LaPorte, Indiana 25 Sept 1965: “My grandfather’s name was Harmon Sorrells, the husband of Missouri Evans. I believe he was her second husband as mother had a half-sister Caroline who lived with relatives at Circleville, Ohio. Mother used to write to two ladies there - one of them was named Ida Phelps. Aunt Caroline came to Attica and worked as a housekeeper for a family until she decided to move to Circleville, where she died and is buried...[Grandfather Sorrells] used to gather marsh willows and make baskets with them. The day before he died, he walked about five miles to his youngest daughter’s home south of Attica and in the morning the next day, they found he had passed away in his sleep...My mother attended a reunion called Newkirk or Niekirk - that is where she found out about the Evans family at Brazil and she went to Brazil and visited them as I did later.”
