Atlantic County Fire & Arson Investigators Association (ACFAIA) is conducting a Fatal Fire Investigation Training Course sponsored by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office (ACPO), International Homicide Investigators Association (IHIA) and Mid Atlantic - Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (MAGLOCLEN). This 2 day/16 hour course of instruction is scheduled for Monday September 19-20, 2016, on the campus of the Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing, NJ.
This program is designed to improve and enhance the abilities of fire service and law enforcement investigators tasked with conducting Fatal Fire Investigations. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to thoroughly and professionally investigate the various aspects of fire-related death investigations as well as common approaches to process each scene appropriately.

Topics Include: Duties of the First Responder and Scene Preservation, Team Approach to Fire Investigation, NFPA 921 and the Scientific Method, Investigative Procedures at a Death Scene, Crime Scene Processing and Evidence Collection, Fatal Fire Photography, Role of the Coroner/Medical Examiner, Investigative Resources & Techniques, Interview & Interrogation, Case Management, Documentation & Report Writing, Prosecution & Legal Matters.
