Contact the Engineer and the appropriate utilities 72 hours before beginning hand digging guardrail post holes.

In items (a), (k), and (l), the type of guardrail will be inserted in the blank. Items (a), (k), and (l) include all posts including steel, base plates, and base plate concrete anchors.
(Use the following two paragraphs when item (k) is included in the pay item list above.) Replace the paragraph that begins "Items (a) and (b) include…", but not the bullet list, with the following paragraph:

In item (j) the extra costs for hand dug holes are costs that are not covered and included in the unit price for one or more of the other listed pay items.
Payment for item (j) performed beyond the quantity shown in the Contract Schedule of Items will be made at the Contract unit price if the Engineer determines that the Contract unit price does not exceed the value of the work as determined according to Section 00197. If the Engineer determines that the Contract unit price exceeds the value of the work, payment for the additional work will be made according to 00195.20.

00820.10 Materials - Add the following paragraph to the end of this subsection:
Choose a concrete barrier gate system from the available options listed for the category “Gate, Concrete Barrier” on the QPL or from the Conditionally Approved List which is available through the Project Manager.
00820.11 Other Materials - Add the following:
(f) Barrier Gate Opening Method – The barrier gate shall include a permanently mounted system that allows the raising and lowering of the unit with compressed air and shall also be equipped with a manual jacking system. The system shall be hinged to allow the gate to swing open from either end and be approved in accordance with the evaluation parameters in NCHRP Report 350, Test Level 3.
00820.40 General - Add the following paragraph to the end of this subsection:
Install the barrier gate system according to the manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations and as shown.
00820.80 Measurement - Add the following paragraph to the end of this subsection:
Barrier gate systems will be measured on the unit basis per each by actual count at each location a system is installed.
00820.90 Payment - Add the following pay items:

(d) Barrier Gate Each
Payment for item (d) will be payment in full for furnishing and installing all required materials for each barrier gate system as specified.
