When the “Golden Spike” was cast in 1869 by David Hewes, the extra gold from the casting formed a golden nugget or “sprue” on the pointed end of the spike. The sprue was removed and made into seven tiny spike watch charms as mementos of this historic event. This is a reproduction of those charms.
