The club method is an intensive and relatively expensive method when compared to other delivery methods.

  • The club method must be viewed as one of the several delivery methods used by a county program. The mix will be different for different counties.

  • Ongoing training needs to be provided to the "front line" 4-H club organizers in the counties. All county programs and NYS 4-H staff must be committed to this effort.

NEW YORK STATE ROOM - NATIONAL 4-H CENTER
At the 1988 Annual Meeting, the NYSACE4-HA took on the project of generating $40,000 towards the remodeling and maintenance of a New York State Room at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Karen Schultz, 4-H Agent in Montgomery County initiated this project. Sue Bauer, Erie County took over this project after Karen resigned from Cornell Cooperative Extension.

The New York State Room will be a hospitality/conference room in Firestone Hall. It will be ideal for state delegations, agents meetings and a general area for conference gatherings in the center complex. The room is approximately 24' x 40'. A divider will be installed to allow the areas to be separated. Plans were developed and available for county promotions and corporate presentations. Funding for the room was provided through county contributions, individual contributors and corporate donations. Completion of the room is anticipated for 1991.

The final payment of $5,000 was presented to the National 4-H Center during Citizenship Washington Focus in July. Nancy Torp, Allegany County and the New York State delegates presented the check, six water color paintings by Richard Trick and district/county items and books.

At the time we were proud of our 4-H programs and feel it is vital that our state had a visible presence at the Center to all 4-H youth, volunteers and others who utilize the facilities, while allowing all to realize the diversity of our state.

Since then, the National 4-H Youth Conference Center has reassigned the purpose of that room in 2009. Most of the items that were put in that room from NYS have been returned to our state association. (The large wall map of the NY with the counties remains there.) Many of them were on display in the Volunteer Lounge located in the Youth Building at the 2010 New York State Fair. Many will be auctioned off at our 2010 state conference to raise money for our association.
NEW YORK STATE 4-H CLUB STUDY

In 1996, the agents association and others financed a study on the value of 4-H clubs. The conclusion, "4-H clubs do make a difference in the lives of New York State youth". The resulting document was used internally and as a major resource piece nationwide. Due to this study a renewed interest of the club arose. The association spearheaded a statewide club conference and the clover is now being proudly displayed on shirts.

Much of our work is now being done electronically although our face to face relationships with youth and volunteers are the same as it was decades ago.

    NEW YORK HOSTS NATIONAL CONFERENCES

    • In 1966, the Association hosted the annual National Association Extension 4-H Agents in Syracuse, NY. Joseph Brownell of Monroe County served as President of the National Association.

    • In 1976, New York State hosted NAE4-HA Conference at the Grossingers’ Resort in the Catskills. “Spirit of ‘76” was the theme. Mary Louise Fisher was the Host State Coordinator.

    • In 1994, Ellen Elliott chaired the New York State committee that hosted National. Nearly every agent was involved as sub-committee chairs and workers. Over 1200 attended the event that took place in Niagara Falls. The theme for the conference was, "Investing for Tomorrow".

    • In 2009 we in partnership with the states of the Northeast Region hosted National Conference in Rochester New York. “Imagine the Possibilities” Conference Co-chairs are Tom Davis, New York and Laura Marek, Connecticut.

NAE4-HA NATIONAL 4-H HALL OF FAME
This began as a 4-H Centennial project of the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents. The National 4-H Hall of Fame Task Force within the Public Relations & Information Committee developed and implemented the nomination & selection process. The induction ceremony is held the first weekend of National 4-H Week in cooperation with National 4-H Council and 4-H National Headquarters. In 2002 the first laureates - volunteers, supporters, staff, and pioneers - who made major contributions to 4-H at local, state and national levels were honored. The following from NYS were inducted:
