Harold R. Anglim (1918 - 2007)
Harold R. Anglim was born on May 1, 1918. He married Viola M. Anglim (nee Pohl). His children are: Dennis (Marta) Anglim, Diane (Tim) Zirbes and Gary (Barb) Anglim. His grandchildren are: Meghan (Daniel) Whitley, Jeffrey and Anna Anglim, Ashley, Courtney and Christy Moon, Katie and Nicholas Anglim. He is great-grandfather of Brookelyn Moon. His brother is Robert (Jean) Anglim. Harold R. Anglim passed away on August 31, 2007. He was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis, Mo.116
Harold Anglim’s wife, Viola M.(nee Pohl) Anglim, passed away on Oct. 5, 2005, at the age of 84. She was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, in St. Louis, Mo.117
Alice Anglim Pattangall

Alice Anglim married Sewall L. Pattangall Sr. They lived in Brockton, MA. Their sons were Edwin Pattangall and Sewall L. Pattangall Jr. (1920-1999), who was born March 14, 1920, in Brockton, Mass. Their daughter was Marion Pattangall. He married Ruth P. (Connors) Pattangall. They were married for 57 years. They had one daughter Monica R. Pattangall of Lenox, Mass.; a granddaughter, Rebecca Mitchell of Galway, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. They lived in Brockton and Fall River, before living in Attleboro for 52 years. Sewall Pattangall Jr. became a licensed captain in the merchant marine and the Coast Guard. He was a 1938 graduate of Brockton High School, a 1940 graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and a 1941 graduate of the National Maritime Academy at Kings Point, Long Island, N.Y. He was licensed by the Coast Guard to operate steam and motor vessels of any size in the ocean. Mr. Pattangall was a lineman and general foreman for the Massachusetts Electric Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a parishioner of St. Mary s Church, Seekonk. Mr. Pattangall was a scoutmaster for the first troop of Sea Explorer Scouts of Attleboro. He had volunteered for the Attleboro Red Cross Blood Bank. He previously served on the Zoning Board of Appeals. His funeral mass was at St. Mary s Church, Coyle Drive, in Seekonk.118

Chart A-17: History of the Anglim Family of Dunkirk, New York
Jeremiah Anglim, born in Ireland ca. 1820, was a farmer living in Dunkirk, New York. He registered for the draft for the civil war in July 1863.119

Between 1887-1896, Jeremiah Anglim lived at 329 Leopard, in Dunkirk. During that time, he worked as a laborer.120


According to Soundex, the 1900 New York State Census Records for Chautauqua County, Charles J. Anglim was a saloonkeeper (or operated a tavern, as according to Elizabeth Anglim). The report went on and said, "children at school (save the youngest). Both he and his wife could read, write and speak English. The home was owned free of mortgage.
Charles had a license to sell ale and beer, beginning ca. 1882.121 Between 1887-1896, Charles Anglim owned a saloon at 41 and 43rd E. Third, in Dunkirk. Beginning ca. 1886, Charles also ran hotel at the same location. Between 1887-1898, he lived at the same location as his business. Between 1889-1896, Mary, the widow of Jeremiah, boarded at 41 E. Third.122
In 1910, Charles Anglim (born ca. 1859 in New York), lived in Dunkirk. He married Elizabeth H. Anglim (born ca. 1864 in Dunkirk, New York) ca. 1888 . Their children, all born in New York, were: Charles Edwin Anglim (born December 23, 1888), Thomas Harold Anglim (born March 9, 1890), Matthew Anglim (born ca. 1892), Collette (born ca. 1896), and Margaret (born ca. 1898). The elder Charles was a liquor store dealer, the younger Charles worked as a student in a law office, and Thomas was a student at a medical college. Also living with this household was Margaret Huston (born1836 in Ireland) , Elizabeth’s widowed mother. 123
Collette Anglim taught in the Lockport, NY schools and died in 1919, after a long illness.
In 1916, Charles E. Anglim opened up his office in Dunkirk at the Merchants National Building. He practiced in both Dunkirk and Buffalo as a trial lawyer.124 At the age of 29, and after practicing law for six years, Charles ran for municipal court judge in 1917. His ads said he was “able, honest, and fearless, and will conduct the office to the end that justice will be done.” He won the Republican primary and defeated the Democratic incumbent.125 In July 1918, he joined the US Army.126 After his service, he returned to the bench. He heard the first local case of a traffic violation involving an auto that was tried by a jury.127 After serving as a judge for 6 ½ years , he died on September 15, 1924. His funeral was at St. Mary’s church, and he was buried at the parish cemetery. The Bar Association of Northern Chatauqua County adopted a resolution of sympathy and condolence upon his death.128
Matthew Anglim associated himself with William H. Kirwin under a firm named Kirwin & Anglim, which was formed to publish and distribute city directories.Matthew was regarded as “a young man well and favorably known here.” He was also credited for successfully distributing the 1916 Dunkirk city directory.129 Matthew Anglim’s real estate firm advertised heavily in the 1920s and 1930s.
In June 1917, Thomas H. Anglim, then a milk aand dairy inspector, married Katherine G. Dempsey, at St. Mary’s church. They lived at 511 Deer Street.130 He would serve with the Ordinance Department of the US Army and went overseas.131 After his service, he would return to his job as a milk and food inspector in Dukirk. In 1923, he invented a milk pasturizer, for which he received patents for. He obtained additional patents for subsequent improvements he made on his invention.132
In 1920, this family lived at 522 Deer Street in Dunkirk. The household then consisted of : Charles, Elizabeth, Charles, and Margaret. The elder Charles was a merchant for a soft drink company, Charles was a municipal court judge, Matthew was a real estate agent, and Margaret was a grammar school teacher.133 The elder Charles died in February 1920, and was buried at St. Mary’s cemetery.
By 1930 and through ca. 1938, Elizabeth was widowed and still lived at 522 Deer Street, with her daughter, Marguerite, who worked as a public school teacher.134 From 1944-1948, Marguerite lived at 522 Deer. From 1944-1948, she worked as a teacher, In 1946, she worked at Public School Number 3. In 1948, she worked at Public School Number 1.
Thomas H. Anglim rank for the New York state assembly in 1936, but was defeated in the general election.135 He served for 25 years as Dunkirk food and milk inspector, before he died on September 6, 1937, at 47. He was survived by his wife, his son, Thomas, and three daughters: Betty, Peggy, and Kathleen, his mother, Elizabeth, and his sister, Marguerite.136
Elizabeth Huston Anglim, the widow of Charles J. Anglim, died on June 27, 1938.137
Katherine G. Anglim, Thomas’s widow, lived at a house on 714 Park Avenue, in Dunkirk. Living with her was her son, Thomas H. Anglim, who was a driver for Dunkirk Home Bakery.138Katherine lived at 709 Deer from ca. 1944-1948. From 1944-1948, Thomas lived at 709 Deer, in Dunkirk. In 1944, he served in the US Army. He worked as a steelworker from ca. 1947-1948.139
In 1944, Elizabeth E. Anglim lived at 709 Deer. She lived at 522 Deer, from 1946-1948. In 1944, she worked as an investigator. In 1946, she worked as a case supervisor for the Chatauqua County Children’s Bureau, in the 2nd floor of city hall. In 1948, she worked as a social worker.140
In 1953, Kathleen, Kathryn, and Marguerite lived at 522 Deer. Kathleen worked as a teacher. Marguerite worked as a teacher at PS 3. By 1956, they all lived at 160 Shoshone. In 1956, Elizabeth Anglim was supervisor of the Adoption Services Department. In 1956, Kathleen was a teacher at PS 52.
Margaret Anglim Bartro – was born in Dunkirk on April 24, 1923., Margaret graduated from St. Mary's Academy and from the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Kenmore Mercy Hospital for several years. Mrs. Bartro was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, decorating, antiquing, cooking and entertaining. She was married twice. Her first husband, John Duane, died in 2002. Her second husband, Raymond J. Bartro, died in 1984. Margaret Barto died on April 24, 2006. Her funeral mass was held at Christ the King Catholic Church, in Snyder, NY.

She had five daughters: Kathryn Sczurek of Meriden, Conn., Mary Giamo of Orchard Park, Maura O'Toole of Monmouth Junction, N.J., Elizabeth Audet of Katonah and Margaret of Buffalo. She had seven sons, Daniel of White Plains, Steven of West Falls, Mark of Fort Erie, Ont., Michael and Timothy, both of Buffalo, Nicholas of Chatham, N.J., and Peter of Lancaster. She had 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.141

Chart A-18: History of the Anglim Family of Juneau County Wisconsin
Based on similar names and dates, this family may be closely related to the O'Callaghan Mills Anglims, as found on Chart A- 10 and A-11.
Patrick Anglim emigrated from County Clare in the 1840s, was in Ohio in 1850, and settled in Juneau County, Wisconsin in 1857. Eventually he was joined by two brothers, James and Timothy.

(Source: Thomas E. Anglim, D.D.S.) The US Government Land Office Records show that Patrick acquired title to his land in Juneau County on May 5, 1857.


Juneau County was formed out of western Adams County in 1857.
Mauston was chartered as a village in 1860.
In 1870, Patrick Anglim (born 1819 in Ireland), lived at Seven Mile Creek, Juneau County, WI, with his wife Ellen (born 1829 in Ireland), with their children: John (born 1850 in Ohio), Margaret (born 1851 in Ohio), Mary (born 1853 in Ohio), James (born 1856 in Wisconsin), Thomas (born 1860 in Wisconsin), Elizabeth (born 1861 in Wisconsin), Teresa (born 1865 in Wisconsin). Ellen (born 1867 in Wisconsin), Hugh (born 1868 in Wisconsin). In 1870, Patrick was a farmer and John worked on the farm.142

According to the Juneau Co.,  Wi.  -  Birth Index , Nora Ellen Anglim was born September 28, 1901 , in Lyndon Station, to Thomas & Teresa Anglim. Her obituary is in the Star-Times, for March 4, 1993


Thomas Anglim (born February 1863 in Wisconsin of Irish born parents) married Theresa McMahon (born April 1862 in Wisconsin of Irish born parents) in 1893. Their children, all born in Wisconsin were: Willie Anglim (born May 1886), Frederick (born May 1898), and Edward (born May 1898).143 In 1930, Thomas Anglim (born 1863) lived in Lyndon, Juneau, WI, with his wife, Theresa Anglim (born 1862), and children: Edward Anglim (born 1898), and Nora E. Anglim (born ca. 1903).Thomas was a farmer, Theresa was a hotel cook, Edward was a railroad brakeman, and Nora was a hotel servant.144

Fred Anglim (born ca. 1900 in Wisconsin) married Irene Anglim (born 1901 in Wisconsin) in 1926. In 1903, they lived on 212 Division Street in Mauston, with his wife and Daughter, Donna J Anglim (born ca. 1928 in Wisconsin). Fred worked as a barber.145
Frederick Philip Anglim (born May 1898 in Wisconsin), was the son of Thomas Anglim and Teresa McMahon. He married Margaret Irene Corner on May 18, 1925, in Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin.
Edward Anglim (born May 1898 in Wisconsin), was the son of Thomas Anglim and Teresa McMahon.
Jeremiah Anglim (born March 15, 1880 in Wisconsin) married Mary (born 1892 in Ireland) in 1910. In 1930, they lived in Lyndon.146
James Anglim (born 1845 in Ireland) immigrated to the United States in 1856, and married in 1868. In 1900, he lived in Seven Mile Creek, with his children, all born in Wisconsin: Maggie (born April 1882), Lizzie (born 1884), and Michael (born May 1885). James was a farmer, Maggie was a servant, and Michael was a farm laborer.147
In 1910, James Anglim (born ca. 1819 in Ireland) he immigrated to the United States ca. 1865. In 1910 lived at Seven Mile Creek, Juneau County, Wisconsin, with his children Jeremiah (born ca.1882) and Margaret (born ca 1885). He was widowed at the time. He was a farmer.148
In 1920, James Anglim (born 1834 in Ireland) was widowed. He had immigrated to the United States in 1855, and naturalized in 1870. In 1920, he lived at Seven Mile Creek with Margaret (born 1887).149

In 1885, Timothy Anglim lived in Seven Creek, Juneau County, Wisconsin.


Mary Anglim (1930-July 27, 2001) was born in Mauston, Juneau County, Wisconsin. She had one son, Eric Anglim, and two grandsons, Glen Anglim and Eric Anglim. Mary Anglim worked with Owens-Illinois and lived in San Leandro, CA upon her retirement.150
