A History of Clay County, Indiana, William Travis, vol. 1, Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, 1909, p173-174 has a very interesting account of the Bee Ridge community, which is where the Yocoms and Downings lived.

Isom is a Kentucky surname.

He was the grandson of Jeptha Garrigus, Representative from Parke County to Indiana. Marion's father died 11 July 1838, when he was age 32. After his father's death, the family moved to Vigo County and then to Clay County. Marion was a farmer and a township assessor. Marion had in his possession a very old book, an extract from John Wesley's journal, published in 1806. igi

19 Mar 1874: married Staunton, Clay County, Indiana, to Mary Jane “Jennie” Reeder (19 Mar 1853 Centerpoint, Clay County, Indiana-18 Jan 1917 Brazil, Clay County, Indiana) (Bk 3 p500). William and Jennie were married on her 21st birthday. Her parents were both born in Indiana. In the 1900 census, she was listed as the mother of eight, seven living.

They possibly had a son named William F., Jr.

William taught in local and Illinois schools for 10 or 12 years. He later practiced law in Staunton, Indiana, where he was principal of its schools and was married there. His wife was an assistant teacher there. “Mr. Yocum was a man of good native ability and liberal acquirements much above the average as an instructor and disciplinarian.” (“History of Clay County, Indiana” by William Travis. He was a member of Staunton lodge, A.F. and A.M., and acted as its master. He was a Democrat.

9 Apr 1902: became the local superintendent of the Brazil Prudential office.

Stewart) (Bk 13 p483) (9 June 1882 near Morgan's Crossing, Clay County, Indiana-_______) daughter of James and Anna (Wimsey) Stewart. Her father was a coalminer and a native of Newburg, Kentucky, and her mother of Brazil, Indiana. Her birth date was given as 10 Oct 1890 in the marriage record.
