Subsea Installation Lead for Heavy Lifts, Jumpers, Umbilicals, and Flying Leads

Contractor reporting to the Subsea Manager while working on behalf of Noble Energy during the Tamar Development Project during the following activities during the installation contractor contract award, subsea equipment procurement, and installation contractor FEED stages. Monitor document delivery and prepare forecasts.



  • Project Management: Revised contract scope of work documents for the Heavy Lift, Rigid Pipe Jumper, Umbilical, and Flying Lead installation work packages. Completed the contract negotiation and award process with the installation contractor, Aker Solutions AMC (who later became EMAS AMC). Managed installation contractor and work package technical interfaces with FEED contractor, IntecSea.

  • Rigid Pipe Jumpers: Procurement of 18 total 8 inch, 10 inch, and 16 inch diameter rigid pipe jumpers with FMC and Cameron connectors for 234 and 1678 meters water depth. Review and comment on design details and installation procedures.

  • Suction Piles: Procurement of three (3) suction piles and install a total of four (4) suction piles for 234 and 1678 meters water depth. Review and comment on design details and installation procedures.

  • Manifold and Structures: Procurement of One (1) 336 tonne FMC Manifold, two (2) 82 tonne FMC Subsea Isolation Valve (SSIV) skids, one (1) 100 tonne FMC Subsea Distribution Assembly (SDA), and six (6) additional FMC Umbilical and Fiber Optic Cable (FOC) connector skids for 234 to 1678 meters sea water. Review and comment on design details and installation procedures.

  • Umbilicals: Procurement of Two (2) main Oceaneering umbilicals each totaling 152.5 km long, six (6) infield umbilicals each 4 to 7 km long, and one (1) SSIV umbilical for water depths ranging from 234 to 1678 meters water depth. Review and comment on installation procedures.

  • Flexible Pipe Jumpers, Steel Flying Leads, Electrical Flying Lead, and Fiber Optic Flying Leads: Procurement of 108 total FMC flying leads installed for 234 to 1678 meters water depth. Review and comment on installation procedures.

  • Systems Integration Testing (SIT): Monitor the subsea SIT activities at the FMC manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. USA.

Well Site Leader / Company Vessel Representative (CVR)

Contractor reporting to the BP Well Site Manager while working on behalf of BP Americas during the BP Macondo well blowout intervention and remediation offshore Louisiana, USA, in Mississippi Canyon Block 252 (MC 252) in 1524 meters (5000 feet) water depth. Work night shift aboard the Subsea 7 MSV Skandi Neptune and the Oceaneering MSV Ocean Intervention, during ROV operations during a two weeks on and one week off rotation.

  • Project Management: Coordinate with BP Well Operations (Well-Ops), Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPs), Management of Change (MOC), Logistics, and Transportation teams. Manage BP subcontractors aboard the vessel. Interface with vessel Offshore Managers and Project Engineers. Monitor work performed. Monitor vessel health and environmental data, and HSE compliance.   • ROV: Monitor ROV maintenance and intervention tasks - Survey of the Well Head and Lower Marine Riser. Installation of a Well Head cover and a flexible riser. Trial and error use of ROV camera on a stick, and thruster on a stick, and dispersant wand field expedient tools. Lower and recover tool baskets. Assemble and connect oil dispersant hoses and manifolds. Spray oil dispersant chemical Corexit. Monitor and record environmental data at the well head.

  • Pipeline Buckle Investigation: Complete recovery of 24 inch diameter pipeline buckle in 7 meters sea water. Monitor dewatering with pipeline pigs. Provide advice during pipeline buckle investigation.

  • Subsea Riser and Pipeline Spools: Prepare rigging plans for the 24 inch diameter subsea riser, and the tie-in spools to the jacket and in-line wye installed by others.

  • Pipeline In-Line Tie-In: Prepare rigging and installation plans for the 24 inch diameter pipeline in-line tie-in.

  • Umbilical Pull-In and Hang-Off: Monitor the first end umbilical pull-in from the Allseas Lorelay and Helix Energy Solutions hang-off of two (2) Aker Kvaerner Solutions (AKS) 130 mm diameter electric, fiber optic, and hydraulic umbilicals in 100 meters (328 feet) water depth aboard the Reliance Industries Control and Riser Platform (CRP).

  • Umbilical Pull-In and Hang-Off: Monitor the second end pull-in with assistance from the Helix Energy Solutions MSV Express, and the Helix Energy Solutions hang off of two (2) pre-laid Aker Kvaerner Solutions (AKS) 101 mm diameter electric and fiber optic umbilicals in 100 meters (328 feet) water depth aboard the Reliance Industries Control and Riser Platform (CRP).

  • Umbilical Installation: Monitor the installation of two (2) Aker Kvaerner Solutions (AKS) 90 mm diameter x 600 m long electric and hydraulic umbilicals in 100 meters (328 feet) water depth aboard the Helix Energy Solutions DP MSV Express.

  • ROV Valve Operations: Monitor ROV valve operations during the flooding, pigging, gauging, and hydrostatic testing of 6”, 8”, 10”, 16”, 18”, and 24” diameter pipelines in water depths up to 1040 meters (3412 feet) aboard the Allseas DP MSV Calamity Jane and chartered DP MSV Skandi Carla.

  • ROV Valve Operations: Monitor ROV valve operations in preparation for the hydrostatic pressure testing of the MEG lines in the Aker Kvaerner Solutions (AKS) hydraulic / electric / fiber optic umbilicals at water depths up to 1052 meters (3451 feet) aboard the Canyon Offshore chartered DP MSV Olympic Canyon.
