Guwahati makes it to final berth:

Guwahati: Defending champion Guwahati qualified for the final of the Senior Nuruddin Inter-district Cricket Championship defeating Nagaon by an innings and 35 runs at the Nehru Stadium here on March 10. In the other semifinal played at the NFRSA Ground title contender NF Railway are on the verge of the final berth as Tinsukia bundled out for 148 runs in their first innings giving an 116 runs lead to the NF Rly. Hosts team is on 84 for two at the end of the day's play.



AITA national camp from April 12:

Guwahati: The All India Tennis Association (AITA) will be conducting national camps for boys and girls in the 14 years and 18 years age group at the National Tennis Academy, Gurgaon and each camp will be for a duration of four weeks. The camp will start from April 12.



Prag Channel, Tribune Group in quarters:

Guwahati: Prag Channel and the Assam Tribune Group on March 4 completed their quarter-final berth defeating the Sentinel Group and Electronics media respectively in the 6th TVS Cup Media Cricket Championship being played at the Latasil Ground on March 4. In the first match of the day the Sentinel Group lost to Prag Channel by eight wickets, while The Assam Tribune Group downed electronics media by three wickets.



NF Rly in semis of Nuruddin cricket:

Guwahati: NF Railway stormed into the semifinal of the Nuruddin Senior Inter-district Cricket championship defeating Hailakandi by a huge margin of one innings and 185 runs at the NFRSA Stadium on Feb 29.



Shankar Barman's injury: AAFPA seeks help

Guwahati: The All Football Players' association on Feb 29 stood beside the injured goalkeeper Shankar Barman and appealed to the sports loving peoples of the State to contribute so that he can return to the field and begin playing football again. The ASEB goalkeeper needs operation since the last one year but due to acute financial problem, he is unable to get it done. The secretary of the All Assam Football Players' Association Hem Das on Feb 29 said that they will try their best to bring Shankar into the field as early as possible.



AFA names squad for U-21 tourney:

Guwahati: Assam Football Association on Feb 29 announced the State squad for the coming U-21 National Football championship to be held at Dimapur in March. The squad: Goalkeepers- Kishore Mushahari, Nitra Dev Sarkar, Akon Khaklari, Jitumoni Tamuli, Biplab Sonowal, Baldev Bhumij. Linkmen- Manoj Boro, Bitu Gogoi, Madhusudan Hazarika, Nitu Narzari, Anuj Gogoi, Lawrence Rongpi, Forward- Rabijit Jidang, Sushim Raleng, Bipul Borgohain, Putul Basumatari, Rajen Rongpi, Coach Kishore Hazarika, Manager Dhansing Rongpi.



Adventure Cup:

Guwahati: The Eastern Command Adventure Cup, a triathlon competition which was conducted between February 23 and 25 tested the limits of human endurance, determination and courage. It is a trend-setter for scintillating adventure, combining three of the most demanding and exciting sports into one rigorous mega triathlon event. The championship blends three events via long distance mountain cycling of 15 three kms on six gear mountain cycles.



Nehru Stadium rent doubled:

Guwahati: The board of Sports of Assam has decided to increase the rent of the Nehru Stadium by 100 per cent barring a few exception and it will be applicable immediately. The decision was taken in a meeting here in a meeting of the Board of Sports of Assam. Sources in the Board of Sports said that for several years now, the rent has not been revised. At present, it charges Rs 1,000 per day which is very less looking at the facilities in the Nehru Stadium. The existing facilities have been improved with time as well. Meanwhile, the Board also has decided to initiate necessary steps against the shops has decided to initiate necessary steps against the shops who are defaulters of the New Field complex and who have not yet paid their rents despite several reminders. There are 55 shops in the New Field complex and more than half of them are defaulters. Sources said that several lakhs of rupees are due from these defaulters.



Mr Saraighat on March 22:

Guwahati: "Mr SARAIGHAT", the 14th R G Baruah Memorial Open Body Building competition will be held on March 22 at the district Library auditorium. The competition will be organise by the NSCA of Maligaon under the auspicious of the Assam Body Builders Association.



Sadiq stars in Guwahati win:

Guwahati: Guwahati on Feb 27 entered into the next round of the RG Baruah U-17 Inter district Cricket championship defeating Rangiya in by seven wickets. A fine spell from Sadiq Imran Choudhury (4-31) restricted Rangiya to 146 runs. Later Sadiq hit a brilliant 74 to help his side to reach the victory target in 17 overs.



OIL lifts Assam Club soccer:

Guwahati: Oil India Ltd became the best soccer club in the State defeating ASEB 3-0 in the final of the Assam Club Championship held at Diphu on Feb 27.



BSNL beat UCO Bank:

Guwahati: BSNL downed UCO Bank by 14 runs and grabbed the third position in the 17th Girish Ch Goswami Memorial Inter-bank Cricket Tournament being played in the city on Feb 23. Batting first, BSNL piled up 106 runs for five wickets in 12 overs. In reply, Bank team scored only 93 for six wickets. In the final RBI will lock horns against Postal Department on Feb 24.



RBI to take on UCO Bank in semifinal:

Guwahati: LICI downed Union Bank of India in the 17th Girish Ch Goswami Memorial Inter-bank Cricket tournament by five wickets being played in the city on Feb 21. Batting first, Union Bank of India scored 79 runs for eight wickets in 15 overs. In reply, LICI reached the target in 12.3 overs for five wickets. In the first semifinal of the tournament RBI will take on UCO Bank, while BSNL will lock horns with Postal department in the second semifinal. Both the semifinal will be played on Feb 22.



No outside coach for State soccer team:

Guwahati: No outside will coach the first preparatory camp of the State football squad for the National Games which is rescheduled on March 28 but keeping T Ao Football Championship in mind Assam Football Association (AFA) decided to organise the camp one month ahead



Bud Cricket Club beat Shillong out:

Guwahati: Bud Cricket Club-A cruised into the next round of the Keshab Ram Bora Memorial Cricket Championship defeating Shilllong United XI by seven wickets played at the Nehru stadium on Feb 21. On 22nd February's match: Gauhati town Club vs New Star.



Vinay Supriya lift crown:

Guwahati: Top seeded Vinay Kamineni andhra Pradesh and Supriya Mallaya of Maharastra lifted the OIL-AITA Super Series tennis championship in the U-14 Boys and Girls Singles respectively. The final held at the NETF Courts on Feb 21.



Star Sporting drub Sporting union:

Guwahati: In an one sided affair Star Sporting drubbed Sporting Union 4-0 in the Debabrata Banerjee 'B' division Football League played at the SAI field on Feb 19. Mukul Boro scored twice, while Mahabir Rabha and Rahaj Uddin Ahmed scored one goal each.



BCC-B bite the dust:

Guwahati: A devastating spell from Abudin Khan forced Bud Cricket Club (BCC)- B to suffer defeat against Riverrine Club in the Keshab Ram Bora cricket Championship match played at the Nehru Stadium here on Feb 19. Riverrine won the match by 118 runs. Chasing a victory target of 163 runs Bud Cricket Club-B bundled out for 44 runs. There will be no match on Feb 20. On Feb 21 Bud Cricket Club-A will lock horns against United Eleven of Shillong.



RBI, Postal in semis:

Guwahati: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) completed semi-final berth defeating BSBL in the 17th Girish Ch Goswami Memorial Inter-bank Cricket Tournament played at Latasil ground here on Feb 19. Batting first, BSNL bundled out for 79 run in 19.2 overs. In reply, RBI reached the target in 10.4 overs. Now the winners of 19th February's match RBI will play semi-final match on February 22.in the other match of the day, Postal Department downed LICI by 9 wickets and entered semi-final.



Danielle upsets Amrita:

Guwahati: In a major upsets Danielle Jones of West Bengal defeated Amrita Sen of Delhi 6-0, 6-1 in a quarter-final match of the ongoing OIL-AITA Super-series Tennis Championship being played at the North-east Tennis Foundation Courts here on February 19. All the other seeds moved to the next round. On 20th February all the semi-final matches will start from 10 am.



T Aao soccer tourney - Uncertainty looms large:

Guwahati: Uncertainty is looming over the future of the T Aao Football Championships as the participating teams, including last year's champion, Assam, are not happy over the way the tournament is being organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The Assam Football Association (AFA) making an exceptional note has sent a letter to the SAI's New Delhi office requesting them to take necessary steps so that participating teams get good facilities and as well as funds to prepare themselves for the tournament.



Nilachal beat Ankurjyoti:

Guwahati: Nilachal Club earned full points defeating Ankurjyoti Club 2-1 in the Debabrata Banerjee 'B' Devision Football League match played at the SAI field here on Feb 18.



NFRCC in next round:

Guwahati: NF Rly Coaching Centre on Feb 17 cruised into the next round of the Keshab Ram Bora Memorial Cricket Tournament defeating Santipur AC by 17 runs. In the Nehru Stadium on Feb 17 NF Rly Coaching Centre batting first scored 203 for eight wickets.



Vivek's hat-trick gives Young Blue big win:

Guwahati: Riding on a fine hat-trick from Vivek Chetri, Young Blue Club on Feb 17 earned brilliant victory over Dakshin Guwahati in the Debabrata Banerjee 'B' Division Football League played in the SAI Ground on Feb 17. In one-sided match Young Blue scored five goals. Vivek chetri scored thrice for his the team, while Biswajit Daimary and Banri T Kiran scored one goal each.



RG Barua cricket camp from Feb 20:

Guwahati: Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) will organise the preparatory camp to select its team for the U-17 RG Barua Inter-district Cricket Championship. The camp will start at the Nehru stadium from February 20.



RBI, Postal register win:

Guwahati: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Postal department registered thumping victory in the inaugural day of the 17th Girish Chandra Goswami Memorial Inter-bank Cricket Tournament played at the Latasil ground on Feb 17. RBI thrashed NABARD by 188 runs, while Postal beat Union bank by 146 runs. Batting first, RBI piled up a huge total of 237 runs for four wickets. Meanwhile, in the second match of the day Postal Department scored 244 runs for four wickets. In reply, union Bank managed to score 98 runs for 9 wickets in the stipulated overs. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by former Ranji cricketer Umesh Sharma and the chief curator of the ACA Sunil Barua was the guess of honour on occasion.



Games soccer camp from March 28:

Guwahati: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare in collaboration with the Assam Football Association (AFA) will organise the first preparatory camp for the National Games from March 28 in the city. The decision was taken at a meeting, which was attended by the State Sports Minister Rabin Bordoloi including Sports Commissioner Pradip Hazarika, sports director Dhruba Hazarika and the joint secretary of the AFA Tapan Hazarika.



Assam eves in quarters:

Guwahati: Assam entered into the quarter-final of the Women National Football Championship defeating Tamil Nadu by a solitary goal at Bhopal on February 15. The lone was scored by Baby Borgohain. Earlier, Assam got the second round berth defeating Mizoram by the same margin.



GCCC 'A' down Assam Police (Blues):

Guwahati: An all-round performance from Souvik Das and fine batting display by opener Shiv Shankar Roy helped Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre -A (GCCC) to register a 98 runs victory over Assam Police (Blues) in the inaugural match of the Keshab Ram Bora Memorial Cricket Championship played at the Nehru Stadium here on Feb 16.



GCCC complete final berth:

Guwahati: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (GCCC) will meet Santipur AC in the final of the 10th Guwahati Challange Cricket Trophy organised by the Riverrine Club at the Latasil ground. In the second semi-final on Feb 14, GCCC downed North-east Frontier Railway Sports academy (NFRSA) by 80 runs. Batting first, GCCC bundled out for 194 runs in 29.5 overs. Sushankar Roy of GCCC scored 49 runs for while Sadique Imran Choudhary contributed 45 runs for the GCCC team. In reply, NFRSA bundled out for 114 runs in 27.3 overs. Pervez Aziz of NFRSA contributed 40 runs while Bitap Mahanta of GCCC took three wickets at the cost of 17 runs.



Star earns full points:

Guwahati: Star Sporting club earned full points in the ongoing Debabrata Banerjee 'B' Division football League defeating Young Blue by a solitary goal at the Guwahati SAI Field on Feb 14. The all important goal of the match was scored by Ronel Duara. In the other match of the day Young Star awarded walkover to Ankurjyoti. On 15th February's match New Star Club vs Nilachal club, Sporting Union vs West Guwahati.



Mritunjoy's half goes in vain - Ankurjyoti lift 'A' division title:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Club on Feb 12 lifted its maiden 'A' Division Cricket League title and more importantly it came in such a time when the club is celebrating its silver jubilee year. In the last encounter of the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial 'A' Division Inter-Club Cricket championship on Feb 12 New star lost to Nabajyoti by 27 runs. RK Mritunjoy anchored the team to pile up a huge total and in the way he scored a brilliant half century. But his 55 runs went in vain as response of the other batsmen was quite dismal.



New Star, Santipur share points:

Guwahati: New Star club and Santipur Club on Feb 12 shared point in the inaugural match of the Debabrata Banerjee 'B' division Football League played at the SAI Complex here on Feb 12. The match ended in a goal less draw. Altogether 10 teams are taking part in the championship. On 13th February's match: Dakhin Guwahati vs West Guwahati.



Assam beat Mizoram:

Guwahati: Assam eves started their campaign by a winning note in the Senior National Football Championship currently under way at Bhupal. In their inaugural match on Feb 11 Assam beat Mizoram by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match was scored by the captain of the side Anjana Pegu.



Samsung rolls out 'run for Ur dream':

Guwahati: Digital technology leader Samsung India electronics Ltd on February 9 stepped up its Olympic campaign in the country by rolling out its 'Run for Ur Dream' nomination programme for the first global torch relay to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, arriving in India on June 10, 2004.



It's a close fight in GSA 'A' Division cricket:

Guwahati: Madhav Ram Bora GSA 'A' Division Inter-club Cricket League eyeing a close finish. The final match of the tourney will be played on Feb 12.



Chandra Kanta named for soccer camp:

Guwahati: Chander Kanta of Kokrajhar has been selected for U-17 Indian football trial camp to be held at SAI Centre, Kolkata from February 25. Chander Kanta recently participated in the Subrata Cup Football Championship representing government Higher Secondary and MP School of Kokrajhar. He has been selected for the trial camp on the basis of the tournament performance.



ACCA, CCCC register win:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy (ACCA) and City Cricket Coaching Centre (CCCC) on Feb 11 registered win in their respective matches in the ongoing Ashrafur Rahim (Raju) Memorial U-13 Inter-coaching Centre Cricket.



Ankurjyoti beat GTC:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Club downed Gauhati Town Club (GTC) by 44 runs in the GSA 'A' Division Cricket League Super-series match played at Nehru Stadium here on Feb 10. Electing to bat first, Ankurjyoti piled up 173 runs for 8. In reply, GTC bundled out for 129 runs. In the next match of the league New star will lock horns with Nabajyoti.



Prabhakar hints second coming:

Guwahati: cricket turns businessman Manoj Prabhakar hinted his second coming to active cricket after a year and expressed his eagerness to help Assam cricket team, if Assam Cricket Association sought it from him. Prabhakar, a celebrated pacer of yesteryears addressed a group of media persons in the city on Feb 10. Prabhakar arrived here on Feb 9 for attending a seminar of his company Naturence.



ACA to get strict on players' age:

Guwahati: The Assam cricket Association decided to take firm step regarding age verification of the cricketers after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed all its affiliated units to take proper care in this regard.

Star boys shine in inaugural tie:

Guwahati: Hosts Star Cricket Coaching academy (A) got off to a flier in the 9th Asrafur Rahim (Raju) Memorial U-13 limited overs inter-coaching centre cricket tournament 2004 drubbing City Cricket coaching centre (A) by 43 runs at the Nehru Stadium here on Feb 8. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the winners piled up an impressive 105 runs in their allotted 20 overs losing 9 wickets. In reply, the CCCC(A) team was bowled out for 62 in the 15th over.



Satish, Kiran Powar overlooked

Sarvanan in EZ team for Duleep Trophy:

Guwahati: Performance, it seems, is not the last word in the Indian cricket. It was proved once again in the selection of the East Zone team for the Duleep Trophy cricket championship. V Sarvanan, the player who scripted a number of graceful knocks for Assam is the lone face from Assam who has made it to the 14-member squad but his team-mate R Satish, who also performed superbly in the Ranji Trophy matches, and earned himself the nickname of a crises man was overlooked by the zonal selectors. Alsooverlooked was Kiran Powar who like M S Dhoni scored prolifically in the Deodhar Trophy matches recently. The team, announced in Kolkata, will be lead by discard Devang Gandhi. East Zone will begin their campaign at Dharamshala against South Zone on February 14.



Two State lad for MRF Pace Foundation:

Guwahati: Pritam Das of Silchar and Abu Naser Ahmed of N F Railway will attend the MRF Pace Foundation camp which will be held at Chennai from February 13. The ACA secretary Bikash Barua said that the two upcoming pace bowlers of the State will be able to hone their skill by getting tips from the former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee who will be there at the camp.



Ankurjyoti lift Debrata Banerjee cricket trophy:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy (ACCA) lifted the 1st Debabrata Banerjee Cricket Trophy defeating City Cricket coaching centre (CCCC) by six wickets played at the Latasil ground here on Feb 5. Batting first, CCCC piled up 194 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. ACCA reached the winning target in 32 overs at the loss 4 wickets.



Rock climbing camp from Feb 10:

Guwahati: Assam Mountaineering Association, the pioneer organisation of Adventure Sports in NE region is going to organise an All Assam Rock climbing Camp from Feb 10 to 15 for the youths of the region for the age group of 13 to 40 years in the city.



Executive meet of AATA on Feb 7:

Guwahati: An executive meeting annual general meeting of All Assam Taekwon-do Association has been called for on Feb 7 at the office bearers for the next 4 years. This has been done keeping in view the 205 National championships. All affiliated district associations, black belts holders, officials from the directorate of sports, SAI, Assam Olympic Association & Teakwon-do federation of India are expected to attend the meeting.



Nabajyoti get walkover:

Guwahati: Nabajyoti got walkover against Guwahati Town Club in the Madhab Ram Memorial GSA 'A' Division Inter-club Cricket League played at the Nehru Stadium on Feb 4. Only seven members of the Guwahati Town club entered into the field instead of 11 members. So GSA awarded the match to Nabajyoti. On 4th February's match: Ankurjyoti vs New Star.



Assam in semis:

Guwahati: Assam entered into the semifinal of the 40th Junior National (NE Zone) football Championship defeating Arunachal Pradesh 3-0 at Gossigaon on Feb 4. In the semifinal Assam will play against Mizoram, the winner of Group 'B' on February 7. The organiser have cancelled the last group match between Manipur and Nagaland due to non-arrival of the Nagaland team at the venue in time. The match is scheduled to be 3 held on February 5. The first semifinal will be held on February 6 between Meghalaya and Manipur.



Rishav hit ton, CCCC in final:

Guwahati: Riding on fine fine century from Rishav Das, City Cricket Coaching Center (CCCC) on Feb 4 entered into the final of the Debrata Banerjee and Vijay Tewari cricket Championship defeating Latasil Cricket coaching Center by 59 runs in the Latasil ground here on Feb 4. Batting first, CCCC scored 240 for the loss of 5wickets. Rishav Das alone scored 145. Latasil Cricket Center bowled out for 191. CCCC will now meet Ankurjyoti Cricket Academy in the final to be held on Feb 4 at the Latasil ground.



Rimi, Krishna to represent Indian badminton team:

Guwahati: Two budding badminton players of the State Krishna Deka Raja and Rimi Hazarika have been selected to represent the India junior team in German Open and Netherlands Open Badminton championship from March 4 to 7 and March 11 to 14 respectively. The Indian team is leaving on March 1 from Bangalore.

Guwahati: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre downed NFRSA Cricket Academy by 56 runs in the first Debabrata Banerjee and Vijay Tewari Memorial Cricket Tournament played at the Latasil Playground here on Jan 31. Batting first, GCCC scored 164 runs at the loss five wickets in 18 overs. In reply, NFRSA Cricket Academy team bundled out for 108 runs in 18 overs. In the second match of the day, City Cricket Coaching Centre beat Ankurjyoti boys piled up 110 at the loss of 10 wickets in 18 overs. Chasing the victory target, CCCC reached it in 19.3 overs at the loss six wickets. On 1st February's match: 1st match: NFRSA Cricket Academy vs Latasil Cricket Centre. 2nd match: City Cricket Centre vs Noonmati Cricket academy.



Argha downs top seeded Rijuana:

Guwahati: Unseeded Argha Baruah of Jorhat defeated second seeded Rijuana Begum of Guwahati in a keenly contested game in U-14 girls category in the ongoing All Assam Ranking Tennis Tournament held at North East Tennis Foundation Courts at Dispur here on Jan 31. All other seeded players move to semis.



State bodybuilding team named:

Guwahati: The Association of Bodybuilders Assam has announced the State team for the coming 43rd Mr India Bodybuilding Championship to be held at Jorhat. The selected players are: Gautom Kalita (Nagaon), Jacky Dolla Gappu (Haflong), Siva Borah (Guwahati), Tapan Baishya (Guwahati), Pradip Singh (Guwahati). Amarjyoti Gogoi (Jorhat), Thaneswar Bora (Jorhat), Ranjit Saikia (Majuli), Dipak Changmai (Sivasagar), Mahadev Deka (Guwahati), Dulal Bora (Jorhat), Debajit Gogoi (Guwahati), Hiranya Das (Barpeta), Hem Gogoi (Sivasagar), Gautom Bora (Sivasagar) and Amarjyoti Mahanta.
