Duration: approx. 2 hours

Beginning with a short coach drive out of Longyearbyen through the scenic Adventdalen valley, this tour gives you a chance to get away from it all for a few hours and learn a little about Longyearbyen’s exciting past at Camp Barentz, a winning blend of rustic buildings, Arctic wilderness and a pack of polar dogs. An interesting presentation will be given in the camp’s large gamme, a faithful if smaller reproduction of a traditional type of Norwegian building, after which you will meet the pack of friendly huskies. Your outing to the Arctic edge then comes to a close with your return to the cosy comforts of your ship.

Please note: guides available only in English. This tour is not suitable for guests using a wheelchair.
LYR08 – ARCTIC ADVENTURE: BOAT TRIP TO FUGLEFJELLA & HIORTHHAMN

Duration: approx. 2 hours

Don’t leave Longyearbyen without experiencing the exhilarating thrill of slicing through the frozen waters of the Arctic circle in a large purpose-built speedboat on a route that will take you through the Bjørndalen valley to Fuglefjella – or Bird Mountain – to see thousands of nesting seabirds. Leaving the jostling and squawking birds to roost, you will then continue on to the now abandoned mining town of Grumant – which existed only between 1912 and 1965 – before heading for Advent City and Hiorthhamn, two more ghost towns that once served the mining industry in the early 20th century. During your boat trip, fascinating tales about the old mining days will be told for your entertainment, while the Arctic scenery provides a captivating backdrop throughout the tour. Ending with your return to the ship, the tour promises to deliver lasting memories of the very best kind.

Please note: the tour is not suitable for guests using a wheelchair or who suffer with back or neck problems. You are recommended to wear woollen underwear, warm clothes, sturdy shoes, windproof outer and headwear, a woolly hat as well as warm gloves. We also suggest to wear the glasses provided in order to protect your eyes from the strong wind. Guides available only in English. This tour does not include stops in the towns and, in case of adverse weather conditions (much wind), can have a different route. The duration of the tour includes also the briefing.
MAHON (Balearic Islands, Spain)
Mahon is the capital of Minorca (also known as ‘Menorca’), in Spain’s Balearic Islands. A popular holiday destination, Minorca – from ‘minor’ or ‘smaller’ – is dotted with picturesque villages and delightful Mediterranean scenery. Mahon is a great spot from which to explore the rest of the island, which is famed for its unusual stone monoliths, known as Taulas.

MAH02 - NORTH COAST PANORAMA

Duration: approx. 4 hours

Leave the port of Mahon and drive northwards through Puerto de Addaya where we will stop for photos. We will continue to the fishing village of Fornells, famous for its lobster stew and one of Winston Churchill’s favorite places. Enjoy a scenic tour through the lovely landscaped gardens of Cala Tirant and up to Mount Toro. Here we will stop to explore the “Nuestra Señora del Toro” monastery, built by the monks of St. Augustin’s Order in the XVII century. Return to Mahon where you can either spend time in the city centre or return to the port.

Please note: this tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair as it includes walking on uneven ground. Conservative attire is recommended for visiting sites of religious importance.
