MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM PERSONAL PROJECT

Dear Prospective Supervisor,

All tenth grade students in the Riverwood cluster are required to complete a Personal Project as part of their curricular requirements. This is a project of the student’s choosing and design, one that incorporates their talents, interests, and academic skills and knowledge. The project is completed outside of class over an extended period of time with the aid of a supervisor.
This is where you might come in. Enclosed is a packet that summarizes the requirements for the Personal Project and its Supervisor. If you feel this is a program in which you would like to participate, the student will give you an informational sheet to fill out and it is the student’s responsibility to return the form to me at Riverwood. If you feel this is a role that would pose too much of an infringement upon your time or energy, we understand; please let the student know at this time.

  Students are required to meet with their supervisor a minimum of six times between now and January 2010. A schedule of the meeting deadlines and agendas is attached. There is no prescribed time limit for these meetings; however, 15 –20 minutes per meeting should be sufficient.
  
• 
  The primary purpose of meetings will be for students to share their ideas, progress, frustrations and successes. The supervisor’s role is one of both mentor and coach; and insights, ideas and support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Supervisors need not be experts on the subject area in which the student will be focusing.
  
• 
  Supervisors are asked to monitor the student’s progress by:
  
  • 
    1) Initialing in the student’s Process Journal at each meeting.
    
  • 
    2) Initialing the student’s Personal Project Schedule to indicate date and time of meetings.
    
  • 
    3) Completing a brief Personal Engagement evaluation form (enclosed here) on the student, and mailing or faxing that form to Jonathan Bradley at Riverwood High School by Friday, January 25, 2010. (FAX no. is listed above)

  Supervisors are invited to attend the student’s formal project presentation given to evaluators in Feb., 2010. More information is forthcoming as we get closer to 2010!
