Table of Colour-pairs that are exempt from the Colour Separation Tolerance Test

Note that these colours have been checked out as discriminable as used on ECDIS by the IHO ECDIS Presentation Library, but they would not always be discriminable if used in other combinations than those used in ECDIS. A utility exists in the Presentation Library called CHECKXYL which will provide a check of the total calibration by comparing measurements of actual colours and verifying that they are within specification. The instructions for using this routine are in section B The data gathered from the measurement is loaded into this routine, and the results are output. The output of this routine should be compared with the bounds specified. B Visual verification of the remaining colour tables
For LCD displays the instrumental test should be applied to all three colour tables see first paragraph of B.
For CRTs the dusk and night tables should be tested as follows
.1 The person conducting the test should have passed the full, plate, Ishihara colourblindness test taken under a Standard Lamp or in natural sunlight. The tester should adapt tonight viewing for 10 minutes before checking the night display.
.2 The controls should beset to their calibrated settings.
.3 While the display is off, adjust the light level reflected from white paper positioned on the display screen to the following values

200 cd/m² +/- 50% light level dusk
10 cd/m² +/- 50% night darkness (ECDIS display predominant light) Preferably use natural daylight for the daytime and dusk tables.
.4 Under each of the above conditions display the appropriate Colour Differentiation Test Diagram described in the Presentation Library, Part I, section 19.4 for the above tables. Select each table in turn and ensure that
- each foreground stripe is clearly distinguished from its background
- the foreground stripes representing yellow, orange, magenta, green, blue and grey maybe clearly identified.
** Note that the Colour Differentiation Test Diagram supplied as pseudo S files on the CD carrying the Presentation Library must be used for this test, because only that source will reproduce the colours stored in the ECDIS for use in drawing the chart display. Any other source for the Colour Test Diagram which does not use the same colours that are used in drawing the display will not provide a valid test.
