Requirements for HEVC image sequences

  1. MPEG-4

    1. Part 15 Carriage of NAL unit structured video in the ISOBMFF

The MPEG-4 file format according to MPEG-4 Part 15 should support still images coded with HEVC. N13823 Requirements for still image coding using HEVC defines these requirements and describes use cases like photography and still pictures associated with video. Requirements are targeted mainly at the file format. However, some requirements relate to bit depth and color spaces are relevant also to HEVC, its range extension and future profiles.

N13882 Requirements for HEVC image sequences explains use cases like photo bursts and high dynamic range imaging. It also lists related requirements on the file format that should support low latency random access to the frames of an HEVC image sequence. The extended file format should enable a functionality like motion JPEG using HEVC as codec.
    1. Part 22 Open Font Format

The Requirements subgroup approved N13825 Call for Proposals for ISO/IEC 14496-22 “Open Font Format” Color Font Technology to extend font technology to cope with solid, gradient and opaque fonts and related functionalities. However, this document was not approved at the WG11 plenary.
