  • Layout of conventional chassis





  • The four wheel chassis consists of following major assemblies:-



  • Engine is the source of power for automobile which converts chemical energy of fuel into mechanical energy.



  • Clutch clutch is mechanism which is used to connect and disconnect the engine with road wheels.



  • Gear box It enables the driver to vary the torque as well as speed ratio.



  • Propeller Shaft this is a long tubular shaft use to transmit the power from gear box to differential when they are situated apart.



  • Differential function of differential is to transmit relative motions between the wheels and while taking turns or cornering.



  • Axle Axle are used either to support or to transmit the power to wheels.

  • Suspensions function of suspension is to absorb the road shock being transmit to motor vehicle.

  • Brakes brakes are used to stop or slow down the motor vehicle.

  • Wheels wheels provide grip to the road and absorb shocks caused by small road irregularities.
