In the work of Hornbostel and Sachs, the harp is studied under two titles. These are frame harps and open harps. Open harps are classified into two; curved and angular harps. The strings are stretched between the pegbox and soundboard in open harps. The neck of the angular harp constitutes a right angle whereas the neck of the curved harp becomes distant from the soundboard in a curved shape. Bow harp is usually used for the curved harp. On the other hand, some researchers use the term bow harp for the musical bow with resonator box. Bow harps are the most primitive harps, pegs and soundboard of which are carved from the same wood piece, so that an arc is formed where the strings are stretched.
