Subgenus Litomegachile Mitchell


Megachile subgenus Litomegachile Mitchell 1934: 301, 308. Type species: Megachile brevis Say. Original designation.

Megachile subgenus Litomegachile Mitchell 1935: 9-11.

Six species in the subgenus occur in southern Canada and U.S.A. and one is South American. One species, Megachile gentilis Cresson 1872, has become established on Hawaii, probably in recent times.

Pseudocentron subgenus Melanosarus Mitchell 1980: 56.

Ten of the eleven species currently recognized in the subgenus range throughout the neotropics. M. xylocopoides Smith 1853 occurs in southwestern U.S.A. Three species have been recorded from the West Indies.

LIFE HISTORY. Adults fly from late February to late September in southern Florida and to late October in the Bahamas.
