Vern Lemieux, who is retiring as Town Manager of Mattawamkeag. Mr. Lemieux was also the administrator, welfare director and road commissioner for the town. Although faced with personal and family health problems, he successfully shepherded his community through difficult and trying times as well as easy ones. His efforts on behalf of all the citizens of Mattawamkeag will be sorely missed, and he leaves large footprints to fill for his successor. Nathaniel Menifield, of Limestone, who has earned the honor of being named Valedictorian for the 2004 graduating class of Limestone Community School. He is president of the Limestone Chapter of the National Honor Society and Northern Maine Regional National Honor Society. He has served as class president for 4 years, as a member and president of the Student Council and secretary of the French Club. He has also participated in band, chorus, the Drama Club, Service Club, the Civil Rights Team, Varsity Cross Country Team and the yearbook staff. He has been part of the All-Aroostook and All-State Band and Chorus, as well as the Beethoven Festival Chorus. Christine Arsenault, of Monmouth, a teacher at Monmouth Academy, who was named a regional finalist for the 2005 Maine Teacher of the Year. Ms. Arsenault has been teaching at Monmouth Academy for 13 years and has been a strong supporter of the students and the school. She is an educational leader at the school, having developed interdisciplinary honors classes for grades 11 and 12. She has been the advisor to the Monmouth Academy Student Council and to the weekly student newspaper, The Academic Advocate. She has also been on numerous professional and school committees, chaperoned students on foreign trips and cocoached the Monmouth Academy Speech Team. Each year, she organizes and oversees the annual "Giving Tree" project at the school. We acknowledge Ms. Arsenault's dedication to her profession, to her school and to the students in her community. NAPA Maine, of Westbrook, upon receiving the President's Award for 2003. This award is presented annually to the employees of the organization within Genuine Parts Company that are judged to have had the most outstanding performance during the year. The employees of NAPA Maine achieved not only exemplary sales and profit contributions, but also continued the high standards of customer service that the company has stood for since its establishment in 1928. This is the 33rd time that the award has been presented, and the 2nd time it has been received by NAPA Maine. Of the 58 NAPA operations throughout the United States, only 5 have been recognized with this special honor more than one time. In order to qualify for this coveted award, all 300 members of the NAPA Maine team, including management and employees of both the Distribution Center and the 15 company-operated NAPA Auto Parts Stores, had to demonstrate outstanding teamwork. Homer and Bernice Waterman, of Belfast, on the occasion of their 60th Wedding Anniversary, June 4, 2004. They were married in Dedham, Massachusetts and moved to Maine on June 12, 1968. Mr. Waterman received his education at Kings Point, Vermont Tech and Milwaukee Diesel, and had a career as a Marine Engineer. He was also licensed as a real estate broker. Mrs. Waterman made her career as a homemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Waterman together raised six daughters and one son. They also have 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Harry Hartford, of West Newfield, for his 22 years of dedicated teaching at Sanford High School. In addition to his career in education, which included 3 years at Nasson College, Mr. Hartford was a member of the United States Air Force. He is a graduate of Lyndon State College in Vermont where he majored in meteorology and minored in physics. It was while attending college in Vermont that he became interested in teaching. Richard P. Edgecomb, of Limestone, on May 7, 2004. The son of Almond and Geneva Edgecomb, Richard was an active member of his community, having served as a volunteer fireman and later on the Water & Sewer Board and the Planning Board. A farmer for more than 40 years and treasurer of the Limestone Masons for 30 of the 56 years that he was a member, Richard also earned the confidence of Limestone voters, serving on the Board of Selectmen for 14 years. In 1986, the annual report was dedicated to Richard. We recognize Richard for his committed service to his community and wish to offer our sincere condolences to his family; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 1604)

Lillian A. Joy, of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey and Lincoln, Maine. Born in Davidson, she later moved to Lincoln and attended Lee Academy. With her husband and children, she moved to New Jersey, where she and her husband established the Better Housekeeping Store in Red Bank. During World War II, she was active as a Grey Lady. She served as a volunteer at the Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and was a member of the Atlantic Highlands Garden Club. She was devoted to her family and never forgot her ties to Maine. Robert and Gloria Willigar, of Crystal, Maine and Miami, Florida, on the occasion of the celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary, June 12, 2004. They were married January 30, 1954 at the home of Gloria's parents in Sherman Mills, Maine. They have lived most of their lives in Crystal, where they raised their family of 5 children. Spc. Beau Ramsey Beaulieu, of Lisbon, who died in the line of duty May 24, 2004 in Taji, Iraq, during a mortar attack on Camp Cooke. Spc. Beaulieu was the husband of Christina Estes, the son of Donna Field, the stepson of Frederick Field, Jr., of Lisbon, and the son of Tim Beaulieu of Kentucky. Spc. Beaulieu was known as a person who believed in what was right. He joined the United States Army in June 2002 and was assigned to the 27th Main Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas, where he had been stationed prior to his deployment to Iraq. Spc. Beaulieu and Christina were members of the Lisbon High School class of 2002 and were married shortly before he left for Iraq. We acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice he made for his State and Nation. Spc. Beaulieu will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Christina, his loving family and his many friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 1611)

J. Gregory Shea, M.S.W., of Topsham, a native of Lewiston and graduate of Bates College upon his retirement as executive director of the Tri-County Mental Health Center, a position he has held for 30 years. He received his master's degree from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work in 1966 and began his professional career with the Department of Health and Welfare. Mr. Shea has been a leader in the field of social work and community mental health at both the state and national levels. Mr. Shea was president of the National Association of Social Workers from 1970 to 1972. He served as president of the Maine Council of Community Mental Health Centers several times and from 1987 to 1988 was president of the National Council of Community Mental Health Centers. He was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of Behavioral Health in Washington, D.C. in April. He has also received many local, state and national awards during his professional career. We extend our appreciation to Mr. Shea for his contributions to Maine's mental health system and to the people of Maine and extend our congratulations to him on his retirement; (HLS 1612)

Jenna Collin, of Frenchville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collin, who has earned the honor of being named Honor Essayist of the Class of 2004 at Wisdom High School. Jenna is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in many sports and civic organizations. She has been awarded many certificates for scholarship, sports and participation. She is a top scholar in English II, Pioneer Band, Academic Achievement and Early Childhood Occupations. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent and then transfer to the University of Maine at Farmington, where she will further her education in early childhood development. Anna E. Ouellette, of Frenchville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ouellette, who has earned the honor of being named Salutatorian of the Class of 2004 at Wisdom High School. Anna was an Outstanding Students of America finalist, Wendy's High School Heisman State female winner, Coca-Cola Scholar State winner, National Honor Society president and top scholar in Accounting, Advanced English II, College Preparatory Chemistry, Environmental Science, U.S. History and Western Civilization. She was also the chairperson for the Maine Diocesan Council for Catholic Youth Winter Carnival and a youth convention keynote speaker. She plans on attending Eckerd College in Florida to study pre-law. We extend our congratulations to Anna on these accomplishments; (HLS 1614)

Heather A. Anderson, of Frenchville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dana Anderson, who has earned the honor of being named Valedictorian of the Class of 2004 at Wisdom High School. Heather has participated in Big Brother/Big Sister. She was top scholar in Journalism, Advanced English III and Human Anatomy and Physiology. She was an Athlete of the Year and was nominated for the President's Award for Educational Achievement. Heather plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in science at the University of Southern Maine or the University of Maine and then transfer to Palmer College to get her doctorate in chiropractic medicine. Malcolm Hare and Pastor Ellen Cleaves, who have been named the 2003 Outstanding Limestone Citizens of the Year in recognition of their commitment to the community and especially to the Limestone United Methodist Church, where they do much charitable work. Both Mr. Hare and Pastor Cleaves were teachers prior to beginning their full-time ministry. Mr. Hare is involved in Habitat for Humanity and has coordinated home repairs for numerous area citizens. Pastor Cleaves entered the ministry in 1992, after having studied and completed her seminary studies at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Following their marriage in 1999, the couple continued to devote much of their time to volunteering and helping others. Their work includes hosting monthly luncheons for senior citizens, using the pastor's discretionary fund, which is supported by the congregation, to supply families with fuel or food and hosting an annual Christmas dinner for people who do not otherwise have anyone to visit during the holidays. Mark Rogers, a senior at Mt. Ararat High School, who has been selected as the 2004 Gatorade National High School Baseball Player of the Year. The award, which recognizes athletic achievement as well as the academic performance and overall character of its recipient, distinguishes Mark as the nation's best high school baseball player. Mark was selected from more than 450,000 high school baseball players nationwide. We extend our congratulations to Mark on this accomplishment; (HLS 1617)

Colin Roy, of Hallowell, who has been named the top administrator by his peers in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference. Mr. Roy is the Athletic Director for Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham. During his tenure at the school, he has been instrumental in numerous improvements made in the Mt. Ararat athletic programs. Kimberly Sparks, of Bowdoinham, the Town Clerk of Bowdoinham, as she takes on her new position as Town Manager of Greenwood, Maine. Ms. Sparks, who also served as the Assistant Town Manager of Bowdoinham, has been invaluable to the town as a multitalented and industrious civic servant, working nights and weekends and making certain the town and its elections ran smoothly. She worked countless hours on the town's ordinances and was the volunteer cochair of Celebrate Bowdoinham Committee. Her one goal was for Bowdoinham to be the best it could be and we acknowledge her dedicated service to the town. Sam Maroon, of China, a student at China Middle School, who is a recipient of the 2004 Secretary of State's Eighth Grade Citizenship Award, as a leader in his school and his community. Chris Kimball, of Gorham, on the occasion of her retirement from the Gorham school system after 21 years. Vicky Lloyd, Director of the Centre of Movement School of Performing Arts in Gorham, for providing area students throughout the past 25 years with the opportunity to develop sound technical skills, expand creativity and build self-confidence through their involvement with the Centre. It is a place where dance is taken seriously in a fun atmosphere. Ms. Lloyd, a teacher, choreographer and adjudicator, is a long-standing member of the Dance Educators of America and serves on its board of directors. She spends countless hours working with the competition team, choreographing, rehearsing and traveling to competitions throughout New England and beyond. The Centre also works with school departments to incorporate dance into the curriculum. Additionally, the Centre gives benefit performances to local nursing homes, senior citizen programs and charitable organizations. The Centre participates in the University of Southern Maine's Health Fair and, on October 20, 2002, set the Guinness World Record for long-distance tap dancing, tap-dancing more than 10 miles while raising funds for the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. Since 1998, the Centre has also worked with CAFE Inc. to bring dance and music to those facing life challenges. We send our appreciation to Ms. Lloyd and the Centre of Movement School of Performing Arts on its 25th anniversary for offering a safe and fun environment in which students can grow and learn and extend our best wishes for the Centre's continued success; (HLS 1631)

Joseph and Phyllis Hampel, of Old Town, on the occasion of their 60th Wedding Anniversary, June 8, 2004. A native of New York, Mr. Hampel met his wife in Bath, while he was stationed in the area as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II. The couple moved to Old Town, where they raised their 2 children, Joseph and Barbara, and where Mr. Hampel was employed by Penobscot Chemical Fiber and later by the University of Maine.
