Morris Berry, of Spruce Head, for his 33 years of dedicated instruction. His desire to ensure that young people receive the proper stimulus to learn helped him to maintain his enthusiasm for teaching throughout his long career. Thomas Beckwith, of Monmouth, who has been named the Citizen Volunteer of the Year by the Maine Recreation and Park Association. The award is given to a volunteer who contributes to the well-being of recreation within the State of Maine, and who supports the development and creation of a recreation program, facility or service. Tom was selected for his tireless efforts and dedication to the youth of Monmouth. Tom has served as a volunteer youth team coach in baseball and basketball since he began to volunteer in 1978, and he started the middle school cross-country running program. the Honorable Willis Lord, of Waterboro, who has been recognized by the citizens of Waterboro for his many years of public service to the community and to the State. The community and State have been well served by Willis as he took a leadership role in both levels of government. In Waterboro, he has been an outstanding citizen, being involved in and serving the community in many ways. He has served as Road Commissioner, school board member, Selectman and Moderator at town meetings and also on numerous town committees. At the State level, Willis served as State Representative from 1985 to 1994 and as Senator from 1995 to 1996. He was the last full-time farmer in Waterboro and demonstrated hard work, commitment and resolve. We commend him for his many dedicated hours and service to Waterboro and the State. Janine M. Winn, of Temple, who was presented with the University of Maine at Farmington's Alumni Achievement Award at the Annual Alumni Association Awards Ceremony. This award honors a University of Maine at Farmington graduate who has achieved distinction in that person's chosen field. Ms. Winn is a 1982 graduate of the University, with a degree in community health education. She has gained recognition in her position as executive director of S.A.V.E.S, an organization to assist victims of rape. She was one of the founding members of the organization and was the first person trained as a hotline volunteer. We extend our congratulations to her on her receiving this award; (HLS 1653)

George W. Jodrie, of Cape Elizabeth, a United States Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Jodrie was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Portland and the Mayflower Society of Maine, and he volunteered for the Red Cross. He was a wonderful neighbor to many and had earned the phrase "let George do it." He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 1654)

SFC Rex G. Sprague III, of Brewer, who died in Iraq after saving the lives of coworkers by driving them to safety after he was mortally wounded. Rex enlisted in the United States Army's airborne division after graduating from Brewer High School in 1982. He served for 20 years and retired as a staff sergeant in December, 2003. During his United States Army career, he served in the first Gulf War, Panama, Bosnia and Germany. After spending 2 weeks in Maine visiting his family, he shipped out in January, 2004 to Iraq to serve as an independent contractor with Titan Corporation and was due to return in October. Rex had met and married his wife Natascha while he was stationed with the 554th Military Police Company in Germany and they had recently celebrated their 10th Anniversary. We acknowledge his longtime service to his Nation and his last heroic act of bravery. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Natascha, his family, his colleagues and his many friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 1655)

Employees and Management of Old Town Canoe Company, who have consistently contributed to the economy of Old Town through good times and bad and have contributed to the success of the company. Ruth Gray, of Old Town, who is the oldest direct descendent of George Gray, the founder of the Old Town Canoe Company. Ms. Gray is a lifelong resident of Old Town and an active participant in civic affairs in the town. Elizabeth Conrad, of Camden, who received the Girl Scout Gold Award. This is the highest award in Senior Girl Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Elizabeth is a member of Girl Scout Troop No. 876 and has clearly demonstrated a strong commitment to the Girl Scouts and to her community. She researched doll house design and created a doll house that was donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Portland for the children of families staying there to play with. The project was made possible through Elizabeth's diligent fundraising efforts and with the help of various donations and volunteers. Harold "Dusty" Woodside, of Waterville, who has been named the Law Officer of the Year at the 86th Annual State Convention of the Maine American Legion. Nominated by the American Legion Veterans Memorial Post 205 in Augusta, Officer Woodside accepted the award from American Legion Department Chaplain Paul L'Heureux. After 26 years with the Waterville Police Department, Officer Woodside became a school resource officer in the middle and elementary schools of School Administrative District 47. Known as Officer Dusty, he taught anti-drug programs in Waterville and Oakland and continues to help raise funds to support the D.A.R.E. fun night. He also chaperones an annual tour to the nation's capital, organizes the Triad Program for the elderly, helps with investigations and patrols during the summer and directs traffic to provide safe passage for school children. Belva Morris, Limestone's Woman of the Century, upon her turning 100 years old on July 30, 2004. Born the daughter of Austin and Levonia Gilman Barnes on July 30, 1904 in Fort Fairfield, Belva, better known as "Dolly," is the eldest of 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. She attended Caswell Elementary School and after the 8th grade transferred to Fort Fairfield, graduating in the class of 1925. Dolly received her teacher's training at Presque Isle Normal School, now the University of Maine at Presque Isle, graduating in the class of 1922. During her teaching career, she taught at the Willard School in Caswell and the Noyes School in Limestone. On November 27, 1929 she married Harry M. Morris, and raised 5 children: Kathryn Andrews, Lorraine McLaughlin, Faye Phair, Wilma Gene Parker and Cyrus Morris. She has 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She lives independently on the Morris Homestead and is very interested in the growing of potatoes and wheat. Florida is her home for 2 months each year. Dolly is a very devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Limestone and is a former member of the Dorcas Circle. During her younger years she belonged to the Limestone Grange, Garden Club, Home Extension, Senior Citizens, Eastern Star and WSCS, in which she held numerous offices. Dolly was the recipient of the Gold Cane on April 13, 2001 and was honored as Woman of the Century on April 22, 2003. the Grand Opening of the Wells/Ogunquit Senior Center on July 17, 2004. The opening of the center marks the completion of the tireless efforts of the Senior Needs Committee of Wells and Ogunquit, which was formed in February 1997. The committee served as a forum for its members to discuss concerns about the lack of information, programs and facilities for elder citizens in the area. The hard work of this committee combined with the generous donations and support of area residents, nonresidents and businesses have helped to build a center that will host programs and events for the needs of the area's elder citizens. Old Fort Western, in Augusta, the oldest surviving wooden military building in America, on its 250th Anniversary. Built in 1754 to defend England's claim to the territory during the French and Indian War, Fort Western has been declared the "crown jewel" of the city by the Mayor of Augusta. Fully restored in 1987-1988, the old fort on the banks of the Kennebec River receives about 25,000 visitors annually. We acknowledge the valuable historical legacy that this well-preserved fort provides to the State of Maine and we join the good citizens of Augusta in celebrating its anniversary; (HLS 1675)

the descendants of Michael James and Margaret Ellen Dow McNeil, on the occasion of their family reunion, July 10, 2004. The McNeil and the Dow families came to North America sometime around 1880. Michael and Margaret, both having a Scottish parent and an Irish parent, were married in September, 1909 in Grand Vallee, Quebec and moved to Maine after the birth of their second child. They had 8 children, one son and 7 daughters: Mary Inez, James Edmond, Sarah Hildred Germaine, Marguerite Dow, Edith Carolyn, Annie Arlene, Bertha Camilla and Barbara Ellen. There are 5 surviving children who are attending the festivities. There are now over one hundred direct descendants of Michael James and Margaret Ellen Dow McNeil, who best exemplify the American tradition of immigrants coming to the New World and finding a better life. He retired in 1987. He is the father of 4 children and is a grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. and Mrs. Roy moved back to Maine in 2000. Reverend Steve Coleman, of Westbrook and Portland, on the honored occasion of his consecration as Bishop of the Jurisdiction of Maine of the Church of God in Christ. A native of Louisiana, the eldest of 9 children, he attended some of the last segregated schools in the old South. He was proudly ordained a minister at the age of 18 in his home church, the Faith Mission Outreach Baptist, by Bishop Earl Alexander, Sr. A 1979 graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a B.S. in chemistry, he began his professional career at the S.D. Warren Company that same year. In 1986, Reverend Coleman first opened the doors of Williams Temple, Church of God in Christ, and was installed as its pastor in 1987. The husband of Evangelist Cheryl Janine White Coleman, a proud father and grandfather, Reverend Coleman serves as only the 3rd Bishop of Maine in the more than 50 years his faith and his church have served the Pine Tree State. As a scholar, minister and community activist, he embodies the call "Be a doer of the word, not a hearer only"; (HLS 1687)

the members of the 133rd Engineering Combat Battalion, in Bangor, for their professionalism while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit provided support to the 878th Engineering Combat Battalion of the Georgia Army National Guard.
