Daniel B. Brigalli, Jr., of Millinocket. Mr. Brigalli attended Millinocket schools and worked at Great Northern Paper as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed spending time at camp and providing his family produce from his garden. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 823)

Rodney Earl Scott, Sr., of Medway. Mr. Scott was born in Sanford and grew up in Medway. He graduated from Schenck High School and served in the United States Army. Mr. Scott worked for Great Northern Paper Company and served as a firefighter as well as volunteering for Little League and the Boy Scouts. Among his other community activities, Mr. Scott served as a selectman for the Town of Medway and as a member of the town's Conservation Committee. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 824)

Rene C. Lambert, of Biddeford. Mr. Lambert was employed in the Pepperell Mills and by Gagne Brothers Ice Company, and left to serve in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Lambert participated in the Invasion of Normandy and revisited Normandy at the age of 80. After the war he worked for Wakefield Roofing, the Saco-Lowell Shops, Boston and Maine Railroad and Portland Rendering. In 1967, he and his wife purchased the Marvel Drive-in Restaurant on Route 1 in Saco and operated it for 10 years. He also worked at Vito Mininni, Inc. and Carl Subler Trucking during the winter months. He was employed from 1980 to 1990 by Fiber Materials, Inc. and in his retirement he was employed by his brother-in-law and nephews at Northeast Transmission. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 825)

William A. Ramsey, of Sanford. Mr. Ramsey was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont and served in the United States Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He married Constance Bergeron in 1947 and they moved to Maine in 1952. Mr. Ramsey owned and operated a car dealership, Continental Motors, in Sanford for several years after moving to Maine. After selling his dealership, he went to work for American Cyanamid for approximately 24 years until retiring in 1987. Since 1952, he was a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge 1470, where he had served as Past Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy. He was also a former member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Knights of Columbus. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 826)

Seth T. Erickson, of Hampden, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 1776, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. This is the highest award in Boy Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. For his Eagle Scout project, Seth installed a permanent enclosure for the public facilities at the recreational fields in Hampden. He has served as a state officer of the Maine Demolay as both junior and senior steward. He is currently working towards earning his pilot's license. We extend our congratulations to Seth on this achievement; (HLS 827)

Susan Lippert, of Wiscasset, on her being selected as the School Counselor of the Year by the Maine School Counselor Association. Ms. Lippert, who is on the staff of Wiscasset Middle

School, has worked with many counselor interns and works with civil rights teams. We commend Ms. Lippert on her receiving this high honor and send her our congratulations and best wishes; (HLS 828)

Linda Bleile, of Wiscasset, on her being named Administrator of the Year by the Maine School Counselor Association. Ms. Bleile is the principal of Wiscasset Middle School and has been on staff for 37 years, serving as principal for the past eight. We

commend Ms. Bleile on her receiving this high honor and send her our congratulations and best wishes; (HLS 829)

Steve LeVasseur, the boys basketball coach at Schenck High School in East Millinocket, on his reaching his 300th career win. Mr. LeVasseur has been a varsity head coach for 22 years. He has coached the Stearns High School Boys Basketball Team and the Schenck High School Girls Basketball Team and has won 4 state titles. We congratulate Mr. LeVasseur and extend our best wishes for his continued success; (HLS 830)

Cory James Quirion, of Sanford, a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 317, who has attained the high rank and distinction of Eagle Scout. This is the highest award in Boy Scouting and is given for excellence in skills development, leadership, personal growth and community service. Dwight "Lib" Libby Sr., of Freeport, who served as fire chief from 1977 to 1983. Known as a good man, an excellent leader and a devoted grandfather, Fire Chief Libby believed wholeheartedly in serving the community and he loved being a firefighter. A former Freeport High School athlete, Fire Chief Libby married Victoria Golding and together they raised 2 sons in Freeport, who both eventually became junior and full volunteer firefighters in Freeport. After retiring as fire chief, he continued as a firefighter and was active in the Freeport Fire Company. We acknowledge Fire Chief Libby's dedicated career as a firefighter and as a family man. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and his grateful community; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 832)

Helen Melledy, of Monmouth, on the occasion of her 90th Birthday, January 13, 2010. Mrs. Melledy is an exemplary and active community volunteer in the area. She volunteers each week at the United Church of Monmouth Vestry Thrift Store and has been the ticket taker at nearly every Theater of Monmouth performance for the last decade. She is also one of the Friends of Cumston Library and of Cumston Hall. She makes baked goods for sales benefitting the Monmouth Museum, the Monmouth Fire Department and town offices. We join with the citizens of Monmouth in sending our congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Melledy as the town celebrates her life; (HLS 833)

Richard T. Bergeron, of Sanford, on his being awarded the 2009 Saint Anselm College Alumni Award of Merit for his success as a small-business owner and for his lifelong commitment to his community. The award is given to a graduate or friend of the college who has demonstrated unusual professional competence or standing in the community and a general concern for the betterment of humanity. A 1958 graduate of and an advocate for Saint Anselm College, Mr. Bergeron has owned Bergeron's Shoes and Pedorthic Services on Main Street in Sanford for more than 40 years. As an integral participant in the Sanford business community, Mr. Bergeron is a member of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, and has been on the Saint Thomas School Board and the Board of the Diocese of Portland Schools. We congratulate him on his receiving this award; (HLS 834)

Mike Portwine, head coach of the Stearns High School Girls Basketball Team, of Millinocket, who has earned his 100th varsity victory. Mr. Portwine is in his 26th season as a high school basketball coach. We congratulate him on his achievement; (HLS 835)

Phillip Hoose, of Portland, who won the National Book Award for young people's literature for the book Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice, which was based on extensive interviews with Claudette Colvin and many others. Mr. Hoose presents the first in-depth account of an important yet largely unknown civil rights figure, skillfully weaving her dramatic story into the fabric of the historic Montgomery bus boycott and court case that would change the course of American history. The book placed on various lists of best books of the year. We congratulate Mr. Hoose on his winning this prestigious and well-deserved award; (HLS 836)

the Reverend Bernard Alderman, of Framingham, Massachusetts and formerly of Livermore Falls, on the 50th anniversary of his ordination into the Christian ministry at First Baptist Church in Livermore Falls. A 1951 graduate of Colby College with an A.B. degree, Reverend Alderman graduated from Andover-Newton Theological School in 1955 with a B.D. degree. He came to Livermore Falls as the new pastor at First Baptist and the Moose Hill Free Will Baptist Churches in 1954 and ministered there until 1963. His 50-year anniversary of being ordained will be recognized at First Baptist Church in the same sanctuary where his ministry began. We join the congregation at First Baptist Church in congratulating Reverend Alderman and celebrating the 50th anniversary of his ordination. We send him our best wishes for the future; (HLS 837)

Ronald and Arlene Jones, of Livermore Falls, on the occasion of their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Ronald Jones and Arlene McCrillis were married on November 24, 1949 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage by the Reverend Stewart Kinley. Mr. and Mrs. Jones met at a dance at the New Norland Grange, of which they are still members today. After 60 years of marriage, they celebrate a family that includes 4 children, 4 grandchildren and one great-grandson, as well as many "special" children they have helped throughout the years. We extend our congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jones on this special anniversary, and we send them our best wishes for continued happiness; (HLS 838)

Matthew and Wendy Polstein, of Millinocket, who are the recipients of a 2010 Governor's Conference on Tourism award for tourism growth. Matthew and Wendy Polstein were selected by their peers for their outstanding contribution to the tourism industry in the State through the New England Outdoor Center. We extend our appreciation to Matthew and Wendy Polstein for their dedication to the State and congratulate them on their receiving this award; (HLS 839)

Cassidy Emma Poland, of Bremen, born November 5, 2007. Cassidy is the daughter of Bobbie and Tracy Lucas Poland. She loved dancing, singing, coloring, swimming, kayaking and paddle boating. She especially enjoyed playing and spending time with her big brother Cole. Cassidy will be sadly missed by her loving family; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 840)

Crispin H. Connery, of Woolwich, a philanthropist, a community volunteer and a gentleman through and through. Mr. Connery had been a member of the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Woolwich, a Sagadahoc County commissioner, a member of the Patten Free Library Board of Trustees, president of the Maine Municipal Association and a trustee and longtime supporter of the Maine Maritime Museum. His friends describe him as a caring man of keen foresight. He was known for always being able to see the big picture. Mr. Connery was associated with many beneficial changes in the Town of Woolwich and Sagadahoc County. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 841)

Jean Laidlaw Pinfold, of Topsham. Mrs. Pinfold was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended local schools. She graduated from Smith College in 1940. She married Russel Warren Pinfold, a veterinarian, in 1945, and they lived in Hawaii for 2 years before the family moved to Maine. She did the books for her husband's veterinary clinic in Brunswick during its early years and later was treasurer of Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick and a member of its board. Mrs. Pinfold joined the League of Women Voters of

Maine a year after the creation of its Brunswick chapter and was secretary of the Davis Fund Committee from 1978 to 1986. Mrs. Pinfold will be greatly missed and long remembered by her loving family and many friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 842)

the Honorable Alton W. Whittemore, of Skowhegan, a prominent and active member of his community and former Member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1977 to 1980. Mr. Whittemore was born in Skowhegan and served in the United States Army during World War II as a sergeant in the South Pacific. He was a very accomplished and successful man, well-known and respected by the community in which he lived. He owned and operated Whittemore's Real Estate for many years with his wife and also owned Whittemore's apartments. Some of Mr. Whittemore's many local accomplishments and endeavors include serving as a Selectman, and as a member of many of the town's committees, including the Budget Committee and the Planning Board. Mr. Whittemore was an incorporator of Skowhegan Savings Bank, an incorporator and trustee for the Franklin Savings Bank, a stockholder and director of Skowhegan Motor Lodge and a former president of Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors. He was named Realtor of the Year in 1971. Mr. Whittemore was a former president for Northern Kennebec Valley Board of Realtors and a director for State of Maine Realtors Association. Mr. Whittemore was honored by the Skowhegan Eagles Club as a Home Town Builder, by the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge as Citizen of the Year and by the Town of Skowhegan Annual Report. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award through the local Lions Club and a recipient of the Alton W. Whittemore award through the local Chamber of Commerce. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and those whose lives he touched; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 843)

Eric Eugene Barnett, of Buxton and Island Falls, Maine and Big Lake, Alaska. Mr. Barnett was born on May 12, 1980 in Millinocket. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division, the first unit to enter Iraq. Mr. Barnett will be missed by his family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 844)

Don Levesque, originally from Grand Isle and now of Saint-Basile, New Brunswick, on his retirement as the publisher and editor of the St. John Valley Times in Madawaska. Mr. Levesque joined the St. John Valley Times in 1985 as an advertising sales representative. He sold advertisements throughout the St. John Valley and was soon named advertising manager, then general manager shortly thereafter. In addition to his duties as general manager, Mr. Levesque became a general assignment reporter-photographer in 1988 and, during the same year, was named managing editor. He has served with distinction as publisher-editor since 1996. We acknowledge Mr. Levesque's commitment to his profession and to the St. John Valley and we congratulate him on his retirement. We send him our best wishes on his future endeavors, including his continued work with the 2014 Congres mondial acadien; (HLS 845)

Father James Albert, of Madawaska, on his retirement as pastor and administrator of Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Parish in Madawaska. Father Albert, who was ordained as a priest in 1986, helped to form this new parish from St. Thomas Aquinas and St. David parishes in Madawaska and St. Gerard Parish in Grand Isle. Earlier, he served as administrator at St. Peter Chanel Parish and St. Bruno and St. Remi parishes in Van Buren and St. Joseph Parish in Hamlin. He was also pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Wallagrass and St. Mary Parish in Eagle Lake. We send our appreciation to Father Albert for his dedication to the church and to the community. We congratulate him on his retirement and send him our best wishes; (HLS 846)

the newest bottling facility of Poland Spring, built in Kingfield in 2008, which has received the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. This is the first manufacturing facility in Maine to receive this certification. LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building performs across various sustainability metrics, including energy savings, water efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions reduction and stewardship of resources. We congratulate the Poland Spring facility in Kingfield on receiving this prestigious certification; (HLS 847)

Jason Bartlett, a native of Windsor, now living in Goshen, New York, who is a recipient of the Thurman Munson Award for his harness racing excellence. The award is given by AHRC-New York City Foundation, which supports children and adults with disabilities. In 2009, Mr. Bartlett recorded 578 wins and more than $9.1 million in purses at Yonkers Raceway, with the highest winnings among Yonkers harness racers for the second straight year. In all, his totals of 720 wins and more than $10.8 million in purses ranked second and fourth, respectively, in North America. In May, Mr. Bartlett traveled to Norway to represent the United States at the World Driving Championship and won his 3,000th career race. An excellent athlete, Mr. Bartlett was also an All-American point guard at the University of Southern Maine. He has been honored by the Maine Association of Agricultural Fairs for his dedication and commitment to harness racing. We extend our congratulations to Mr. Bartlett on his receiving this well-deserved award; (HLS 848)

the Bates Outing Club, at Bates College in Lewiston, on its 90th Anniversary. The Bates Outing Club was founded in 1920, the second oldest collegiate outing club in the country, and the first to include both men and women as members. From its beginning, all members of the college community, and all alumni, have been considered members. It is one of the few remaining completely student-run organizations of its kind. The club provides outdoor opportunities and access to necessary equipment to all its participants, introducing generations to core activities such as hiking, skiing, canoeing, snowshoeing, rock-climbing and camping and pursuits such as ice climbing, kayaking, surfing, sailing and snowboarding. Involvement with the Bates Outing Club continues to inspire Bates students toward careers in the fields of outdoor and experiential education, exploration, the natural and environmental sciences and other adventurous pursuits. We extend our congratulations to the Bates Outing Club on the occasion of this anniversary and send the members our best wishes for future success; (HLS 849)

Noreen Wormwood, of Sanford, on the occasion of her retirement as Dispatcher after 19 years of dedicated service to the Sanford Police Department. We acknowledge her commitment to the community and to the State, and we send her our congratulations and best wishes on her retirement; (HLS 850)

Richard Paradis, of Auburn, who is the 14th recipient of the Travis Roy Award. Richard is the 3rd winner of the award from St. Dominic Regional High School. He was named the top hockey player in the State at the 2009 Class A Hockey Banquet.

Donald S. Cobb, of Brownville Junction. Mr. Cobb was a 1938 graduate of Brownville Junction High School, and he served in the United States Navy during World War II, and after, from 1944 to 1946. He was a longtime employee of Great Northern Paper Company and retired in 1983. Mr. Cobb enjoyed the

outdoors and spending time on Schoodic Lake. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 852)

Donald W. Smith, a lifelong resident of North Yarmouth. Mr. Smith was born on July 14, 1920. He attended local schools and graduated from Greely Institute in 1938. Upon graduation, Mr. Smith worked for the family poultry business. In 1942 he married the former Katherine Nickels and they raised 3 children. Mr. Smith loved to participate in sports, including hunting and fishing. He coached Little League for 30 years, played for the Yarmouth Twilight League, served as an umpire, was a Registered Maine Guide and raised English Pointers that he ran in field trials. Mr. Smith was very involved with town government. He served as a North Yarmouth town meeting moderator, on the Board of Selectmen and on the local school board. He was a member of the North Yarmouth Historical Society and a member of the North Yarmouth Congregational Church and served many years on the Board of Directors of the North Yarmouth/Cumberland Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Mr. Smith believed in land preservation and helped form the Future Lands Fund. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed deeply by his family and friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 853)

Warren R. Dwyer, of Brunswick, longtime resident and prominent member of the community. Mr. Dwyer was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the troop ship USS General W.C. Langfitt in the Pacific theater. He graduated from the University of Michigan, earned his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania and then practiced law in New York City. In 1957 he married Marilyn Habel, whom he had met on a trip to Stowe, Vermont. They moved to the Boston area in 1959, where Mr. Dwyer served as corporate counsel for Raytheon and subsequently as vice-president of the international management consulting firm Harbridge House. Mr. Dwyer originally came to Maine for a one-year assignment to Bath Iron Works. Together with business partner John Palmer, he purchased the Yarmouth-based firm Down East Novelties in 1972. As company president, Mr. Dwyer turned a small local company into a firm with nationwide sales. Mr. Dwyer was very active in the communities in which he lived. He worked with a New York City housing clinic, served as a selectman in Lincoln, Massachusetts and was involved extensively in the Brunswick community. In 2002, along with wife Marilyn, he was recognized with a Jefferson Award for a distinguished record of community involvement that included service as President of the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, Vice-president of Mid Coast Hospital, Chair of the Bowdoin College Friends Fund, President of the Maine State Music Theatre, Deacon at First Parish Church and Brunswick Planning Board member. Mr. Dwyer will be greatly missed and long remembered by his loving family, his many friends and those whose lives he touched; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 854)

the Gardiner/Augusta Lions Club, on the special occasion of its 60th anniversary. The Lions Club has been and continues to be an important part of the Gardiner and Augusta communities, making an outstanding contribution to the residents of the area through its charitable giving. The Lions Club has provided scholarships to local high school students and has provided support for the Gardiner General Hospital, the Kennebec Valley Medical Center and the Good Shepherd Food-Bank. The Lions Club has sponsored drug education and prevention via the Huggy Bear Program and sponsored the chemical-free Project Graduation. These activities represent the true spirit of community. We extend our congratulations to the members of the Gardiner/Augusta Lions Club as they celebrate this special occasion; (HLS 855)

Horace T. Gardner, Jr., of Millinocket, devoted husband and father. Mr. Gardner attended school in Orono and Old Town. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in wildlife management. Mr. Gardner worked for James W. Sewell Company and Great Northern Paper Company. Mr. Gardner will be sadly missed by his loving family; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 856)

Robert Lefebvre, of Gorham, the Fire Chief of the Gorham Fire Department, who has been named the Cumberland County Fire Chief of the Year by his peers, the Maine Fire Chiefs' Association. Fire Chief Lefebvre began his career in 1968 with Westbrook Rescue while he was a Westbrook High School student. He became a full-time Westbrook firefighter in 1971, following in the footsteps of his father, who was with Westbrook Fire Department for 28 years. Fire Chief Lefebvre was appointed as Gorham's part-time call fire chief in 1984 and became the town's full-time fire chief in 1987. We congratulate Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre on his receiving this well-deserved honor, and we wish him continued success in the future; (HLS 857)

Officer Darin Gilbert, of the Farmington Police Department, who has been named the 2009 Top Employee for the Farmington Police Department. This annual award is given to any full-time employee who stands well above other employees in job performance and who contributes immensely to the mission of the Farmington Police Department. We acknowledge Officer Gilbert's commitment to the department and to the community. We extend our congratulations on his receiving this well-deserved honor; (HLS 858)
