Organized a mini-colloquium on Prop 8 Litigation and Same-Sex Marriage on 22 March 2012 in 206 JRCB at BYU Law School, and presented “Update on Prop 8 Litigation & the Movement to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage” in that event.

Organizer and convener of a symposium involving thirteen presenters including three from foreign nations. The event was co-sponsored by Marriage and Family Law Research Project at BYU Law School, the Marriage Law Project of the Columbus Law School at The Catholic University of America, and the BYU Journal of Public Law.)

Main co-convener of this Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Extended Families, Extending Families, and Intergenerational Solidarity on April 30-May1, 2012 in Doha, Qatar, as the President of the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family, with our hosting co-sponsor the Doha International Institute for Family Studies and Development; nearly thirty scholars from North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East (of various Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist and no faith backgrounds) participated.

Host convener of the annual UFL conference; it convened at BYU Law School. I organized panels, make logistical arrangements assisted by secretarial staff and conference committee members from other universities

Organized and hosted a one-hour mini-colloquium on Roe v. Wade on January 23, 2012 at the J. Reuben Clark Law School.  Karrie Galloway, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah made a presentation, and presented “Why Pro-Choice Is Losing Favor, and What the LDS Position on Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Reveals About the Moral and Social Evil of Elective Abortion.”

Convened a colloquium on September 29, 2011, at the J. Reuben Clark Law School on “The Indissolubility of Parenting, featuring a presentation by Professor Patrick Parkinson from the University of Sydney Faculty of Law, with responding presentations by Professor Cynthia R. Mabry of Howard University School of Law, Professor Alan J. Hawkins of Brigham Young University, School of Family Life, Professor (Adjunct) Carolynn Clark Camp of Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School, Professor Susan D. Talley, Utah State University College of Family and Consumer Studies, and myself. 

Participated in the Fourteenth World Conference of the International Society of Family Law in Lyon, France, July 19-23.  During the triennial conference, moderated the opening (plenary) session of the conference, and participated in two meetings of the Executive Council of the ISFL.

Co-convened the “Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Parenting” at the Aula Magna at the University of Malta in Valletta Malta on July 15-16, 2011, for the International Academy for the Study of the Jurisprudence of the Family.  Papers were presented by twenty scholars from eleven nations.  I presented a paper "Parenting, Family Fragmentation, and Safety-Nets: Religion and Effective Parenting in Centrifugal Times" in the Symposium. 

Co-convened an academic Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Parenting and the Influence of Culture 12-13 May, 2011 at Faculty of Law, Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Two dozen law professors from the U.S., Spain, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina presented papers, and an additional 30-35 law professors and students attended.

Organized two panels of presenters on “ART, Adoption and the Rights of Children,” in the International Society of Family Law Caribbean Regional Conference in Nassau, The Bahamas, March 17-19, 2011.

Convened a Symposium on Belonging, the Family, and Family Law at BYU Law School on Friday, January 28, 2011. A dozen presenters from various law schools in America and from two foreign universities made presentations.

Convened a one-hour mini-colloquium on the 38^th anniversary of Roe v. Wade at BYU Law School on January 21, 2011, with four pro- and con- and two student presentations, including one by me on “The Effects of Roe v. Wade on Life and Law in America.”

Convened and hosted at BYU Law School a “Symposium on the Impact of Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage on Education: Implications for Schools, Curriculum, Students, Families and Educational Communities,” on October 29, 2010.

Co-convened (with Scott FitzGibbon of Boston College and Bea Verschraegen of the University of Vienna) the “Symposium on the Jurisprudence of the Family” at Bratislava Law School in Bratislava, Slovakia on May 28-29, 2010 in which legal scholars from 11 nations and diverse perspectives (from Orthodox Jewish to Islamic to Non-believer, from feminist to conservative, from Asian to Canadian, etc.) presented papers.

Co-sponsored a Symposium on Federalism and Interstate Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships at California Western School of Law in San Diego with Professor Barbara Cox, a Conflict of Laws teacher at Cal Western, on March 19-20, 2010.

Co-convened and was the host convener at J. Reuben Clark Law School of a small symposium (eleven presenters) on “The Future of Rights of Conscience in Health Care: Legal and Ethical Perspectives” co-sponsored by J. Reuben Clark Law School and Ave Maria Law School and supported by University Faculty for Life, in 2010..

Convened a small lunch session of thirteen participants for a discussion of the effects of legalizing same-sex marriage in Massachusetts during (but not officially part of) the AALS Convention in New Orleans on Friday, January 8, 2010.

Organized and convened a four-hour Continuing Legal Education program (including two hours of ethics, one of which was Ethics/Civility, and two hours of substantive presentations) on “Counseling and Ethics in Utah Divorce Practice” held at the J. Reuben Clark Law School on Friday, November 20, 2009.

Co-convener (with two Israeli family law professors) of an academic conference sponsored by the International Society of Family Law on “Family Law in a Multicultural Environment: Civil and Religious Law in Family Matters,” held at Bar Ilan University and Sha’arei Mishpat Law College, June 7-9, 2009. There were 55 scheduled academic presentations; participants came for more than a dozen different nations.

Co-convener of a “Symposium on the Jurisprudence of Marriage and Other Adult Intimate Relations” at Boston College Law School, March 13, 2009, and at panel of that symposium at BYU Law School, March 16, 2009.

Organized and hosted Law Professors’ Roundtable breakfast small informal discussion of state marriage amendments and of effects on academic freedom and public protests and abuses; Professor Richard Peterson of Pepperdine, who appeared in two TV commercials supporting Prop 8, talked about the serious harassment and threats he received (and ultimately some significant private support) in public and in his law school in conjunction with the AALS, January 8, 2009, in in San Diego.

Participated in a discussion of the Supreme Court’s denial of the Petition for Writ of Certiorari in Kitchen v. Herbert and several other cases leaving intact the lower court rulings that mandated the legalization of same-sex marriage in Utah and four other states on “The Doug Wright Show” on KSL, Monday, 6 October. Also interviewed by Marjorie Cortez of the Deseret News and by several other journalists for other media outlets. 8 October also interviewed live on The Morning Show on BYU Radio about those developments.
