Dedication

This work is dedicated to the glory of God and the memory of my late father, Pa. Lawrence Sunday Adedara, whom death denied the opportunity of seeing me make this academic advancement.

Acknowledgement
Many hearty thanks to Prof. Dr. Hans-Rudolf Bork and Prof. Dr. Joachim Schrautzer for their excellent supervisory role in my master’s thesis. Their words of encouragement when I informed them that I would travel to my home country for the fieldwork were invaluable. I appreciate immensely Dr. Wilhelm Windhorst, the environmental management coordinator of blessed memory whose supervisory role in my projects 1 and 2 helped to improve my scientific writing skills. I am eternally grateful to my amiable wife (Tokunbo Adedara) and handsome little boy (Samuel
Adedara), who bore the pain of a temporary separation from them to enable me to pursue my dream career in a faraway land. The daily prayers of my mother (Ms. Ajibola Adedara) and her resounding words of hope cannot be ignored. I cannot forget in a hurry, the timely funding support from Stube Nord (Diakonisches Werk Hamburg) in making the field trip a reality. Finally, I thank the leadership of the church I attend in Kiel, and all my friends, home and abroad as well as the ESG (the university church) for their unflinching support, especially in the most challenging times.
