Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 3:30 P.M.: I was up at 1 P.M.. I went outside, and I picked up the mail. I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee. I chatted with a relative. I went back outside briefly. Two of the sofas in the community room have disappeared, perhaps they are being reupholstered. I have seen lots of people in the area this summer as usual from down south including many people from the wealthier areas of Florida. I have also seen various other groups of people whom travel through this area in the summer including the usual cross section of gypsies that seem to like to frequent the wealthier areas. In the computer software business, since Microsoft is releasing the Windows XP SP2 update for free in the next couple of weeks, there would seem there would be no rush by the software pirates to dry to distribute it illegally. However, since over 50,000 people beta tested Windows XP SP2, it would be widely in distribution. However, since it does incorporate software protection features against pirated versions of the software, more than likely any hackers or software pirates whom were not beta testers might try to obtain the final release, since they would want to try to crack the software protection features, so they could update their pirated software. I am volunteering helping Microsoft out, since they gave me a free copy of Microsoft Office 2003 when I attended the TS/2 Security conference at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport, Connecticut this past February. Basically, I have beta tested Windows XP SP2 since December 2003, and possibly Microsoft might give me a free full version copy of the final released product. If not, I still have my own copy of Windows XP Professional upgrade that I paid $200 plus tax for at CompUSA in Norwalk, Connecticut in December 2002, and I received a $50 mail in rebate from Microsoft for attending a Windows XP conference at the Stamford Marriott before I bought the product. Since IBM uses 400,000 licensed copies of Windows XP in their worldwide operations, I would be a little hesitant at calling IBM's personnel software pirates, but I suppose to many of the naive non computer users, it might seem that way. However, since I am half Holland Dutch, and since the Dutch with Philips developed CD technology, and since the Dutch are cleaver in that technology, more than likely some of my Dutch cousins and their associates have tried to copy copywrited music and computer software with CD technology probably along with videos. However, since I spend most of my time trying to work on the software systems part of the computer and reading technology reports, I have a feeling that some of the local beer boys whom may or may not have computers seem to think they know more about computers than they actually do. Basically the computer people in this area know the key players, and just because somebody works as a trucker, janitor, grounds keeper or food service employee in a technology company in this area or another area, it does not mean that individual knows what the real technology people know about the business and who is whom. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 5:50 A.M.: I am a bit tired, so I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 5:10 A.M.: I microwaved and ate a Stouffer's Lean Cuisine Cafe Classics bowl Chicken Teriyaki white meat chicken with long grain white rice, snap peas, carrots, and red peppers 11.5 ounce portion, and I ate it with a glass of iced tea. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 4:40 A.M.: I went out after the last message. I drove over to King Street in Port Chester, New York, and I drove up to IBM in Armonk, New York. When driving in back country at night one has to drive slowly and keep a keen eye out for deer of the Bambi type, since they frequently jump out in front of cars. This trip I did not see any deer. I delivered the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 RTM Japanese version to the IBM Security personnel working there at night at about 3 A.M. EDT. I then returned to central Greenwich via King Street and Glenville Road. I chatted with a town employee downtown. I drove down by the waterfront. I then went by the ATM machine at Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street, and I used the ATM machine. I just now returned home, and I drank some iced tea. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 2:15 A.M.: I finished the download of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 RTM Japanese Version. I made three CD copies and put them in jewel cases and labeled them. I will now make like the pizza delivery man and deliver one copy to the security gate up at IBM Armonk, New York. I am sure they would rather have a Planet Pizza from Greenwich, Connecticut, but maybe they will get use to eating rice. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 1:30 A.M.: IBM tells users not to install Windows XP update , IBM goes slow on XP update - News - ZDNet , SP2's new firewall: Better than nothing, but not good enough - News - ZDNet . I am 60% through downloading. Technically, since I am a Microsoft OEM and a beta tester, I guess I am allowed to release the final release of XP SP2 to interested parties, but usually I let the younger professionals do that. However, we are in a unique situation, since a lot of the reps are on vacation right now, and I am probably the only one in the area in proximity. I have been up since 6 A.M. yesterday in the morning, but if it is important, after I copy the Japanese download of XP SP2 to CD, I could technically make it five miles back to IBM Armonk to deliver it. However that is a dangerous road at night when one is tired, and I would rather not drive it tonight. If one thinks it is really important, they could have the decency to give me a telephone call to let me know. However, if they can not afford the fifty cents for a local pay phone or if they do not have a telephone of some sort, I would doubt that they are the truly interested parties, since the interested parties are not afraid to communicate. My experience with the final release of Windows XP SP2 so far is that it is very stable and increased my computer performance by about 25 percent and since I mostly use Microsoft products I have no problems with it. However, IBM is a major player in this area, and I have been over there many times. Also since the Japanese community are workaholics and since they are probably not on vacation and since they are probably the largest venture capitalists in this area during the last 20 years having done things like buy several trillion dollars of United States government debt during the last 20 years, I suppose I could go out of my way to get it over to Armonk. My local Japanese contact more than likely is not available. However, my insurance man at GEICO www.geico.com would probably prefer me not to be driving when I am extremely tired. Don't forget www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm and NRL Monterey Satellite Photos . CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 12:25 A.M.: I am now downloading the Japanese version of Windows XP SP2 final release, which takes a while because Microsoft's beta download server only goes at 56 KBS. You don't suppose it is all coming out of someone's home telephone line. CIO
Note: <888> 08/10/04 Tuesday 12:20 A.M.: I put away the iced tea in the refrigerator. CIO
Note: <888> 08/09/04 Monday 11:45 P.M.: I had something funny happen today when I was driving up King Street to IBM. A pickup truck passed going the other way around Anderson Hill Road, and a large amount of paper items flew out of the back of the pick up truck. While I drove up to IBM, I heard a scraping noise, which I thought might be a car problem. The security guard at the gate at IBM did not say anything, but when I was walking out of Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street after I returned to Greenwich, I noticed about a three foot by two foot piece of white quilted type packing material stuck underneath my left front wheel housing which was causing the car to make a little bit extra noise until I removed it, when I discovered it. CIO
Note: <888> 08/09/04 Monday 11:05 P.M.: I bought my Epson StylusColor 880 color printer the day before 09/11/2001 http://911digitalarchive.org/ , so it sort of has sentimental value to me. I recall it was a $149 printer on sale at Staples in Old Greenwich, Connecticut for $79.99. I also recall going back to Staples the week after 911, and they gave me an additional $10 off under their price protection policy, since it was for sale $10 cheaper. I have used it for my inkjet printing ever since. The current Epson made color and black ink cartridges which are half full were obtained from Entree computer, when they exchanged Epson 800 color and black ink cartridges that I had mistakenly obtained from Marx Brother's going out business sale for half price. I just now ordered from http://xtremetoner.com/ for the EpsonStylus Color 880 printer two black #T019201 ink cartridges for $5.95 each and two color #T020201 ink cartridges for $8.95 each plus $8.75 U.S. post office priority mail which was only about $2 more than UPS ground for $38.55 total. I printed out my receipt. I also reinstalled the Epson Status monitor, which now works when one prints out. It has been a very reliable cost effective printer these last three years, but I do not use it too much since I have the laser printers. Still, it comes in handy for printing out my Christmas letters and other color projects occasionally. I now have to separate the calling cards that I printed out. CIO
Note: <888> 08/09/04 Monday 10:05 P.M.: I just discovered that my calling cards have the wrong email address on them. The ones that I have been handing out have "mikscot@optonline.net" instead of "mikescot@optonline.net" . I guess after looking at computers all of these years, my eye sight is not that clear. I will email the address "mikscott@optonline.net" about the error. I printed out 58 new calling cards with the right email address. I emailed mikscot@optonline.net , and it is not a valid email address. I must have handed out about 150 calling card with the wrong email address. I guess when one looks at computers all of these years, one has a hard time reading the fine print. CIO
Note: <888> 08/09/04 Monday 8:40 P.M.: I went out after the last message. I made it to my 4 P.M. appointment. I then drove down by the waterfront and some of the usual fishermen were there. I then drove over to Radio Shack in Cos Cob, and they have a number of clearance items. I bought a Radio Shack Digital Home Messenger Center regularly $29.99 for $4.97 plus .30 tax for $5.27 total. I then sat out downtown for a while. I returned home, and I put four new AAA Duracell alkaline batteries in the Radio Shack Home Messenger Center, and I tested it, and it works just fine. It has four message box buttons each of which will record and play back up to 12 messages for a total of 60 seconds for each message box. I placed it on the right side of the Maple side table next to the Danish bar by the French sitting chair near the wire telephone with the instructions underneath it. I took the picture of President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush that I had in an inexpensive frame, and I put it in the brass frame that I bought today, and I rehung it in the same location on the right side of the day bed. I also have another picture of President Bush and the Bush Cheney Inaugural invitation underneath the picture that shows. I took the inexpensive frame that had a picture of the Russian Tall Ship training vessel the C.R.F. Kruzenshtern , and I hung it on the wall in the bathroom with my other ship pictures. C.R.F. stands for Czar's Royal Fleet, but in Russian it would be spelled differently. I then took four family pictures, and I put them in the green and gold floral design frame that I bought today, and I placed it on the left side of the TEAC DVD player beneath the Orion television in the living room. I am in the process of making up a batch of www.geocities.com/mikelscott/icetea.htm . Also today when I was coming back from IBM, and I was driving down Glenville Road, which I hardly ever do, I noticed at the old farm on Glenville Road, they have a Farm Stand where they sell sweet corn, and I suppose other produce. There is another farm stand on West Putnam Avenue near the oil company across from the Chrysler dealership service garage. The electricity just blinked, but the computer did not go off. CIO
Note: <888> 08/09/04 Monday 3:10 P.M.: I was up at 6 A.M. this morning. I ate breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee. I checked the weather outside. It seems to be a nice day. I just noticed on the internet that IBM www.ibm.com paid a .18 a share quarterly dividend. I did not know that that this morning, but after I cleaned up. I took a blue and a green rubber band, and I fastened them around the Microsoft www.microsoft.com Windows XP SP2 final release CD disks one each in English and German, and I inserted a calling card. I then drove up to IBM's World Headquarters in Armonk, New York, which is only about five miles north of me in Byram, Connecticut next to Greenwich, Connecticut, I dropped off the two CD disks at IBM's security gate with the security guard for IBM to evaluate. I mentioned the names of a couple of IBM people that my family is suppose to know. I noticed they have a helicopter pad by the gate, but the helicopter that was just landing or taking off looked like something out of the Wright Brothers, so maybe IBM should check out United Technologies and buy one of them Sikorsky helicopters like this Sikorsky . However, although the helicopter looked like a pile of junk, it might be well maintained, so it might be reliable. I personally would not ride on that IBM helicopter I saw at the IBM gate, but maybe it was not an IBM helicopter, but just a visitor's helicopter. I hope the corporate brass at IBM enjoy the final version of Windows XP SP2, which I have found to be significantly better. I next drove back to Greenwich, and I went by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street, and then I went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop, and I bought an 8" X 10" malachite type color in dark green and gold floral design picture frame that is free standing for $5 and a brass 8" by 10" picture from for $1.50 for $6.50 total. I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations. I toured the Greenwich Hardware store and CVS. I used the bathroom at the senior and arts center. I think the senior center serves an inexpensive lunch to seniors. I then returned home. I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm . For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Heluva A Good Muenster cheese. I used all of the other regular ingredients. I had the salad with a glass of iced tea. My cigarette order of seven cartons of Seneca Ultra Lights 100s cigarettes arrived from http://www.smokemcheapcigarettes.com/ , and I will open up the package shortly. I now have 9 and a half cartons of cigarettes which should last me a while. I have my usual Monday biweekly appointment today at 4 P.M.. CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 10:45 P.M.: I ate a bowl of Planter's Dry Roasted peanuts with some iced tea. I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon. CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 9:55 P.M.: One of the relatives that I chatted with today told me that some of my other relatives would be coming now to visit on Friday August 13, 2004 in the morning to pick up the day bed from my living room and to take it up to the other relative's house in Kennebunkport, Maine http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm . Let's hope it is all right to do it on Friday the 13th. CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 9:30 P.M.: I downloaded and installed the Zinio Reader www.zinio.com , and I also downloaded the last month's worth of magazines that I subscribe to for free. CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 8:30 P.M.: I went out after the last message. I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations. I stopped by CVS, and I bought sixteen 3.75 ounce tins of Beach Cliff sardines in water for two for .99 for $7.92 total. I then drove down by the waterfront and some of the native American Indians have returned to their Happy Hunting Grounds. I next sat out for a while on one of the benches at the Greenwich Library parking lot. I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 12.5 ounce Maria Callender chicken tenders dinner for $2.29 and a Maria Callender 12.5 ounce turkey white meat slices with stuffing dinner for $2.29, a 16 ounce bag of baby carrots for $1.50, broccoli crowns at $1.49 a pound for $1.44, plum tomatoes at .99 a pound for $1.56 for $9.08 total. I then returned home, and I put away my groceries, and I drank some iced tea. CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 3:30 P.M.: I chatted with a relative. I put away the laundry. I tested my sound card speaker system by listening to http://www.powerfmradio.com/listen.htm . Those limeys in Lanzarote never get Island Fever. I made up a fresh batch of homemade hummus www.geocities.com/mikelscott/hummus.htm . I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm . Instead of tuna fish, I used a tin of chopped sardines. For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Heluva A Good Muenster cheese. I used all of the other regular ingredients. I had the salad with a glass of iced tea. The Optimum Online mail server is still not working yet. I will now shut down the computer, and I will clean up, and I will go out. It is 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside right now http://www.w3.weather.com/weather/local/06830 . I am worried it is going to be a cold Norwegian winter coming up this winter. Of course some Norwegians go to Brazil, and they even use to fly the Norwegian flag at the Atlantic Shores Beach club in Key West, Florida, so Norwegians being seafaring people tend to get around. Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 12:20 P.M.: I chatted with a relative with Net2Phone for an hour. I have been studying this satellite photo from the Navy Research laboratory in Monterey, California NRL Monterey Satellite Photos , and there is a very large cloud formation over Sub Saharan Africa, which this time of year moves in a westerly direction over the Atlantic, and it is usually such large cloud formations that can create ideal hurricane conditions in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean depending on other factors like the ocean water temperatures. I looked for an online link for A.H. Riise in St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands for online duty free shopping, but I guess one can not buy duty free online, and I suppose one would have to actually visit there to buy Duty Free Shopping at AH Riise on Main Street Charlotte Amalie - Photos of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands . CIO
Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 10:45 A.M.: The APC UPS might actually work, but my primary computer setup off the power strip includes the CPU 500 watt power supply, the 19 inch and 21 inch monitors, the cable modem, and the router, so possibly if the wattage on the APC UPS was only like 500 watts, it might not have been able to handle the heavier load off my system. CIO

Note: <888> 08/08/04 Sunday 9:55 A.M.: I was up at 7 A.M.. I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee. I went outside, and I chatted with some neighbors. I chatted with a friend. I took the APC UPS unit off the plug in the bedroom, and I plugged it into the wall behind the primary computer, and I plugged in the primary computer power strips into it. I started up the computer, but I guess the APC UPS does not hold a charge, because it lost power to the computer after about a minute after it was started up. When I tried to reset it, it would not send power to the power strips. Thus I took it off, and I plugged in the power strip again directly to the wall outlet. Thus I have the same setup as before. I will plug in the APC UPS in the bedroom to see if it charges up some more, but I do not think it works. CIO

XP SP2 final release installed without any major problems.
On first boot after installation procedure, with CMOS setting for Video of
AGP init
the system froze when the PCI monitor woke up.
On first retry boot with CMOS setting for Video of PCI init
the system froze at the same point.
On second retry boot with CMOS setting for Video of AGP init
the system booted successfully into Windows without anymore problems
recognizing
both monitors and all other devices. Possibly the first two boots
recognized each monitor or card separately.
I tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers 07/15/04, but they are not XP
certified, and the system
became unstable. I tried uninstalling them unsuccessfully. I then did a
System Restore to the original successful install state.
I then reinstalled the same latest Nvidia driver program,
and on reboot the old Nvidia driver from 2003 was installed instead
successfully along with the VIA AGP video bridge
that supports the motherboard from the original VIA 4-1 in drivers that were
already on the system.
Initially Norton Win Doctor 2003 would not work and froze the machine. I
ran it without the two Active X scans,
