Zimfest 2015 kicks off its Opening Ceremony 7:30 p.m. August 13. This “everyone-can-participate” festival offers workshops on Zimbabwean music and culture, free afternoon concerts, clock hours for teachers and an African marketplace. We will be highlighting cemetery occupants that held unusual occupations with a program titled “What Will Be on Your Epitaph?” Among others, the tour will spotlight an oyster house owner, a circus worker, and Norristown’s deputy postmaster. The art of brewing goes back centuries before our founding fathers experimented with grains to create their concoctions. We’ll experiment with invasive plants found in the forest, while learning the basics of making beer with Home Brewed Events. Come on a hike and learn how to identify edible plants.

Brew at the Zoo is back at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Roam the Zoo while sampling over 100 craft beers from more than 50 of the regions’ finest brewers at Rhode Island’s most popular outdoor venue. Historian Steven Campbell will be giving a lecture on Robert E. Lee, giving an in depth look at the Confederate General. This lecture requires reservations, due to limited space.
