Oaklands will be hosting celebrated author and poet June Hall McCash as she reads from her latest book The Thread Box. This event will be held in one of the most elegant parlors in Middle Tennessee at 5pm. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the museum’s one-night-only rare antique book exhibit featuring books dating from 1830. “Oaklands book collection contains a wide variety of subject matter ranging from medical research to the Queens of Scotland and even one of the first editions of Webster’s dictionary,” said Connor Moss, head of Archival Collections.

The Station Street Sip & Savor event is an all inclusive, one price admission food and beverage tasting extravaganza to benefit Kids on the Block. The Silent Wings Museum will celebrate the Spirit of ‘45 Day with a free one-day event that provides an opportunity for America to say “Thank you!” to those who served in uniform and those who supported them on the home front during the WWII era.

The Buddy Holly Center presents Foil Reliefs, a fun new class that teaches kids how to use foil to make metal reliefs out of leaves or other objects. Pre-registration by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11 is required. Ages 6-10.

Visitors will learn how codes and ciphers were made and used during WWII, practice deciphering different codes, create their own ciphers, and go on a mission in the Museum. Pre-registration by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25 is required. Ages 8+

Sampler week is offered for people who would like to learn various forms of art but can not afford to go out and purchase supplies for something they may not like after all. At Mlota we offer several different classes in clay, painting, quilting, spinning or weaving, photography and line dancing. Two different classes are held each day. Test the strength of foil boats and experiment with what floats and sinks. Then explore the science of water at the Science Discovery Lab. Investigate the properties of water

A whole day at the Montshire devoted to things microscopic. The Science Discovery Lab will be buzzing with activity as you explore an entire world of microscopic wonders. Using an array of magnifying instruments from hand lenses to compound microscopes, you can observe everything from the weave of a t-shirt to invertebrates in pond water, to the nuclei of your very own cheek cells. Discover a whole new world just hidden from the naked eye. This event is sponsored by Adimab.

The Caterpillar Lab will be at the Montshire mid-August. We’ll have a variety of native species on hand, along with video scopes and other tools to observe these marvelous creatures up close. In addition to live caterpillars, stunning photographs by New England’s caterpillar expert and ambassador Sam Jaffe, will be on display. This event is made possible by the Mascoma Savings Bank Foundation.

With more than 100 quality arts-related events and activities, the Vermont Festival of the Arts is designed to entertain the soul, enlighten the mind, and energize the spirit. Because this is a multi-dimensional, multi-media, multi-age series of events, there is truly something for everyone. The goal of the Vermont Festival of the Arts is to provide a platform for the myriad arts events that already exist and to encourage new events.

The VJC hosts about 40 instrumental and 20 vocal participants from around the world for a challenging, invigorating weeklong summer workshop with a world-class faculty. Participants focus intensively on the music: learning opportunities include classes in theory, composition and arranging, vocal studies, ensembles, listening, master-classes and jam sessions.
