1.0 Introduction We will not have done justice to this course without looking at how discourse relates with other disciplines. As
we noted earlier in the course, Discourse Analysis, though recognized as a branch of Linguistics has its origin in the social sciences. Discourse Analysis encompasses a wide range of activities. It is at the intersection of discipline as diverse as Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Philosophical Linguistics and Computational Linguistics. We shall look at the interplay between Discourse Analysis and some of these allied courses. Also of particular interest is the interplay
between Discourse and Medicine, Literature, Politics and Education.
