President Trump took office in January 2017, with new leadership at the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies. In addition, New Jersey citizens will elect a new Governor in November 2017. This new leadership at the state and federal level will result in uncertainties regarding floodplain management policies, priorities, programs, and funding. Regardless of these uncertainties, NJAFM’s commitment to sound floodplain management, hazard mitigation, technical assistance, and professional development remains at the forefront of our mission. The 13th annual NJAFM conference will highlight the activities that have proven effective in protecting people and property from the impact of floods and storms, and the importance of maintaining these core activities as we adapt to the programmatic challenges expected to result from new state and federal administrations.
Commander Krik Lippold, USN (Ret.) was the Commanding Officer of the USS Cole when it came under a suicide terrorist attack by al Qaeda in the port of Aden, Yemen. During his command, he and his crew distinguished themselves by saving the American war ship from sinking. This event is widely recognized as one of the most brazen acts of terrorism by al Qaeda prior to September 11, 2001. The following is the procedure for validating your municipality: Log onto iccsafe.org Click on “My ICC” Log in On the “My ICC” page on the left side find and click on “Member Directory” The “Search the Member Directory” window will open. On the bottom of this page see “Note” click on “Click Here” a new search window will open Look for “State/Territory” and drop down, enter “New Jersey” and click “Go” A new window “Organization Directory Search Result” will open At the top of this page is a row of numbers 1-41. To find your municipality, click on the numbers, each number opens a new page. When searching for your municipality they are listed as “Borough of” “Township of” or “Any town Township” Only the primary contact can validate or change any of the listed information. Each municipality has a minimum of 4 voting members, and you can register all of them. Also remember that your fire departments are also members and can be registered. Registration for the 2016 Annual Business Meeting will be opening soon, when it does, if you are planning to attend please register. You can register for the full conference at a cost or you can register for the free registration. Also, if you and any of you members are not planning to attend you can register for the free registration. Please register ether one way or the other, this is very helpful to our PAC committee when they need to negotiate with other states 2017 ICC Conference Registration Registration for the 2017 ICC Annual Conference in Columbus Ohio September 8-12 Registration is open if you are planning on attending the conference go to the ICC web site and register. If you are not planning to attend still register for the free registration, this is very helpful for the PAC committee when they are speaking to other states for support. NJBOA has blocked out rooms at the Crown Plaza. You can reserve a room by contacting Larry by email with your name date of arrival and departure and type of room.
