DRC Requirements for Certification:
To be certified as a mediator by the Dispute Resolution Commission, you must meet strict educational and professional requirements. These rules are attached. The rules differ for attorneys (with 5 years experience) and non-attorneys (for example, with a college degree and 10 years professional work experience). You should contact the DRC at (919) 783-1574 if you have any questions about the certification requirements.
NCAMP:
North Carolina Agriculture Mediation Service (NCAMP) was certified by the USDA as the mediation service provider in the State of North Carolina to assist in the resolution of disputes between participating USDA agencies and their program participants. The program trains and provides mediators to assist farmers and others in resolving disputes with USDA agencies. As part of its program, NCAMP offers Superior Court mediation training to all interested persons, including those who plan to become agricultural mediators.
To become a NCAMP mediator, you must complete the 40 hours of Superior Court training, plus an additional 20 hours of agricultural training, which will be offered in the spring. You do not need to be certified as a Superior Court mediator in order to become an agricultural mediator.
