• The heavy weather ballast tanks are to be kept crude oil washed at all times.
• Normally 25% of the remaining cargo tanks are crude oil washed, so that over a period of 4 discharge operations all the cargo tanks will be crude oil washed, which makes sludge control more easy.
• But in the past it shown that all the disadvantages are offset by doing the COW, with regard to environmental pollution.
• With the world oil reserves diminishing at a very fast rate, it is worthwhile to take the additional burden of all the stated disadvantages.
