2.6 Other Technological Activities
Scholarly Sport Sites has been “CORC’d!: OCLC’s CORC Project

http://www.ucalgary.ca/library/ssportsite/
OCLC, the organization responsible for the library union catalog called WorldCat (now has over 40 million records from North American and international sources and the major tool your editor uses to find new publications) has taken a leadership role in a new cataloguing initiative by adding records for websites. This is called the CORC Project (Cooperative Online Resource Catalog). The CORC records were unveiled on July 6th, and are now part of the data in WorldCat. In cooperation with many libraries, standards and procedures have been established. Presently OCLC contributors are using the International Standard for Bibliographic Description for Electronic Resources, guidelines agreed to in 1997. In this way information about websites can now be found when using WorldCat, along with the monographic, serial, AV, and, noted of late, many more archival records.
Recently, for example, a colleague at the University of Georgia, Deanna Britton, Head, Social Sciences Dept., selected Scholarly Sport Sites to be “CORK’d”. The task was given to UG’s CORK representative, librarian John Riemer, who cataloged SSS for WorldCat (thanks, John and Deanna).
If your college or university library is a partner with OCLC and sends the library’s records to the file, you can participate in the CORC project and include sport related or other websites. Contact your library’s cataloguing department to make contact with the CORC representative. See the OCLC website for more information on the CORC Project: : http://www.oclc.org/oclc/corc/index.htm
