After the Linux installation, some parameters and applications must be configured within the Linux server before proceeding with the following OpenScape Office LX / HX installation.
The YaST2 program is used for the configuration. This is a part of Linux and requires root privileges.
7.1Administration for a Software RAID (Optional)
To enable the PC to start from either of the two hard disks in a RAID system, the following adaptations are needed (based on this example of a software RAID with the hard disks sda and sdb):
a) Log in as the "root" user.
b) Open a root shell and run the following commands there:
grub --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
root (hd1,0)
setup (hd1)
quit
7.2Network Setup
If the initial installation of the network was performed using dummy data, the network configuration must be subsequently updated with the actual data of the physical customer network, at the very latest before integrating the server PC in the customer LAN.
The data from the previously created IP address scheme for the customer network is required for this purpose.
The steps for configuring the network with YaST2 are essentially the same as those described for the initial installation (see section 6.1.2.3), except for the fact that real customer data must now be used instead of the test data.

| 7.2.1Internet Access
The server requires a broadband Internet connection for the registration, activation of software support, and the software update service. If this was not set up during the installation of the operating system, the Internet access must be configured after integrating the server in the customer network.
7.3Registering the Linux Installation at Novell
Registration with Novell is required in order to receive security patches for SLES.
The registration of the SLES operating system must be done under the customer's name!
The activation code and an account at Novell are prerequisites for activating the software support and for software updates.
7.4Installing SUSE Security Hot Fixes via Internet Access
Online software updates can only be successfully performed, provided the registration and activation were completed earlier, and the server PC has access to the Internet.
7.4.1Updates During the SLES Installation
It is advisable to use this opportunity to update the SLES with all the available updates for the current version or service pack. However, an upgrade to a later service pack or later version should not be performed.
Note:
After a complete software update, the online updates should be restricted to only the automatic installation of security updates that can be installed without any questions (see section 7.4.3).
Before installing OpenScape Office, it is advisable to update the SLES with all the available updates for the current version or service pack. However, an upgrade to a later service pack or newer version should not be performed.
For online updates, Internet access and prior registration of the SLES at Novell are required.
The configuration and execution of online updates occur via the YaST program. This is done by selecting the "Software" option in the YaST Control Center and then "Software Online Updates".
Note:
After installing the SLES, the online updates via YaST -> Software – Online Updates should be restricted to the automatic installation of security updates that can be installed without any questions (see section 7.4.3)
7.4.3Security Updates After the OpenScape Office Installation
After the installation of OpenScape Office, only the security updates that install automatically, i.e., without prompting the administrator, are allowed.
The appropriate settings are made via the YaST Control Center under the option Software Online Update.
