Packet Switching:Store and Forward behaviour l Break messages into smaller chunks called 'packets' l store-and-forward: switch waits until chunk has completely arrived then forwards / routes Application level protocol exchange messages in accomplishing the task. In modem packet switched networks the source breaks long messages in smaller packets. Most packet switches use store - and-forward transmission at the input to the links. Store-and-forward transmission means that the switch must receive the entire packet before it can transmit the first bit of the packet onto the outbound link. Thus the store- and-forward packet switches induce a store-and-forward delay at the input link along the packet's route.
