59 Annex G Data Centre Module Location Servers and UPS equipment for data centre’s are getting denser and heavier everyday. The load rating for all supporting structures, particularly for raised floors and ramps should be adequate for current and future loads. Considering
the load bearing requirements, it is recommended that the data centre be located on the ground floor of the building, unless
there are flooding concerns, in which case the data centre should be located on the floor immediately above floodwater levels. Most buildings are designed with data and electrical wiring runs done along the central core, as this provides protection from external elements. Furthermore, Ethernet twisted pair cables have a maximum recommended distance of 100 meters. Therefore, to reduce distances
to floor wiring closets, enhance cooling, and address security concerns (e.g. theft and bombing) the optimal location of the data centre is close to the core or centre of the building.
