At companies where business innovators are stepping up to create and leverage their own digital
solutions and automations, most of the activity is targeted at the individual or team level. According to the IDG survey, more than three-quarters (76%) of responding companies are building solutions that benefit individual workers or specific teams, which means solutions are not being deployed or leveraged enterprise-wide. This is despite the fact that both IT and LOB survey respondents agree that business-led development practices can benefit enterprise use cases.
At
the same time, there are discrepancies in how IT and LOB view their progress with business-led customization and automation, as well as activating data. IT is more likely to report that an organization has graduated its busi- ness-led efforts to fuel both departmental and enterprise modernization strategies (59% compared to only
49% of LOB.
In reality, however, only 32% of responding companies are using automation and customization tools to pursue enterprise projects on a regular or limited basis. Only around one-third (30%) are extending automation and modernization efforts beyond individual teams to multiple departments outside of their domain. See Figure 2.)
