For Ph.D. programs not included in the NRC study, considering only students who were always fulltime would drastically reduce the numbers since only 36% of these students were fulltime throughout their career. Interestingly, the completion rates for always-fulltime and all students vary little: on average, completion rates are only 6% higher for those who were always fulltime. The data below are for all Ph.D. students. The results in Tables 1 and 2 are not, therefore, directly comparable.
