Press Release N° 11
The expo’s Web site www.mondonatura.it has been completely upgraded. Page layout has been changed, with a more modern legible format, using higher resolution, clearer graphics and more legible fonts. The contents have been laid out according to a clearer logic. Viewing is facilitated with icons and images. Plenty of space is dedicated to photographs and films, particularly useful to people who have never visited the expo.
However, the most interesting update is the new search function, which will help visitors to find the information they need on the Web site more rapidly. In fact, new software enables the site to be more easily found by search engines all over the world.
The intention is to capture Web navigators who come across the MONDO NATURA Web site via keywords. Facilitations are foreseen for (Italian and foreign) visitors registering online. In the last two years, online registration has drastically reduced queues are the cash desks, offering visitors the advantage of passing more time at the expo and less queuing up at the entrances.

Press Release N° 13
RIMINI FIERA IS ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY, LIKE MONDO NATURA
Like the open-air tourism buffs that crowd the MONDO NATURA halls, Rimini Fiera has the environment at heart. Inaugurated in March 2001, the Rimini expo centre was designed by Prof. Volkwin Marg of Hamburg’s GMP studio under the banner of low environmental impact and through the years all extension and maintenance work has been carried out in line with this policy.
The timber that is a highlight of the centre's architectural features comes from Scandinavia, where there is an on-going reforestation cycle
Large windows and skylights ensure that illumination is mainly natural.
In the south outdoor areas, a new avant-garde lighting system has been installed, comprising LED lighting fixtures (a total of 970) which ensures an 85% saving in electricity. The LED light sources have a guaranteed average life of sixteen years (when used 10 hours per day), compared with the two years of metal halide fixtures.
On the roof of the main entrance, a photovoltaic system, covering 400 square metres, supplies electricity to the centre foyer, “saving” Rimini from approximately 40 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
The centre's air conditioning is based on a system that produces cold at night and is thus able to lower the temperature during the day (a sort of “ice bank” that enables electricity consumption to be reduced by approximately 50%).
On the heating front, a new heating plant has just been completed. The centre now has a new condensing boiler with a heat capacity of 380 kW which replaces the old boiler with a forced draught burner. This new boiler will save the town of Rimini 90% of nitrogen oxide emissions compared to the previous one.
Rimini Fiera’s indoor and outdoor landscaped areas and green spaces cover 160,000 square metres, with over 1,500 trees and bushes, 30,000 square metres of lawn, and irrigation systems only use water from surface water-bearing strata.
All fountains recycle the water they use and the water from the periodic procedure of emptying the fountains and pools at the venue is treated and re-used to irrigate the green and landscaped areas, while the water flow in the centre's toilets is at a controlled pressure (two projects that save 23 million litres of water annually)
Throughout the expo centre premises and grounds, there are numerous waste collection points, enabling visitors to contribute to source-segregated waste collection.
The expo centre can be reached by train, thanks to the railway station at the south entrance, thus lowering the impact of traffic on the environment. In 2008, Rimini Fiera was attended by over 1.7 million visitors and approximately 20% already use the train to come to expos. Sixteen trains stop at the centre’s station every day.
As well as organizing exhibitions strictly dedicated to the issues of environmental protection (ECOMONDO, RI3, KEY ENERGY, ENERGYES), Rimini Fiera promotes and supports the first Italian graduate course of the University of Bologna (Rimini branch) in Chemical Technologies for the Environment and for Waste Management.
Rimini Fiera has UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 environmental certification and has received Nuremberg’s prestigious international ELCA “Building with Green” award.

"MOUNTAIN BIKING AS A NEW MEANS FOR THE GROWTH OF LOCAL TOURISM"
Conference held in collaboration with Tutto Mountain Bike magazine.
In the nineties, the combination of sport and tourism which had made the fortune of ski resorts since the sixties underwent a great increase in outdoor summer activities, of which mountain biking was the key player. The way in which people experience tourism changes and innovative emerging niche tourism took its place alongside the classical forms of tourism for the masses. Local areas, once they have been organized and made “useable”, become the locations for leisure/sports and the stakeholders of the tourist trade apply the format of eliminating seasons to face the physiological drop in attendance figures compared with traditional tourist products. Tourism and sport are therefore combined in articulated packages and the need to fine-tune a tourist product that is also suitable from a sports point of view offers a new opportunity of development. Locations begin the process of transformation into “tourist destinations” launching the procedure of reorganization of the structures, management of the local areas and interaction with the target tourist traffic in order to satisfy clients’ requirements. The key elements characterizing a destination are: the organization of the area as a “geographic location” considered as a destination, the provision of a “product system” including accommodation facilities and additional services and the reference to incoming tourism - i.e. flowing towards the destination. The setting up of “Bike Parks” and “Bike Resorts” is therefore a fundamental step in the development of mountain biking and a new source of potential users for tourist destinations.
