Helicopters Find out about helicopter flight. Use a sycamore seed Stand on a steady platform and drop the seed from as high as possible Time how long it takes to reach the floor. Do this five times. Find the average time taken. Why should you do this? Which part makes it fall slowly – the seed or the wing? What can you do to see if your answer is right? Try your idea 
(Clue: you may cut pieces off your seed or wing) Parachutes 
Make a parachute from a piece of black bin liner as shown in the picture. Think of a way to test it. Time how long it takes to reach the floor. Can you make it work better? Try your idea. Time it and compare it with last time. Was it better? Gliders Make a glider like the one shown in the picture… Cut three pieces of card, two of them must be 20cm long and 3cm wide. The third piece must be 8cm long and 3cm wide. Fasten them together to make the glider as shown. Try flying it. If it doesn’t fly well, fix a paper clip to the front of it and try it again. Add another paperclip or adjust the first one until it flies well. Make other gliders with different sized wings. Have a glider challenge/race – which can fly the furthest? What must you do to make sure your test is fair? Which of your gliders goes furthest and why?
